Seems like a good time for an update on a graph from my 2015 post on AI.

Regardless, the fact that I was able to look through the code to gain a better understanding of this artwork is, in my opinion, one reason why on-chain generative art is so awesome. Thank you @ArtOnBlockchain for your contribution to art history!

If Snowfro wanted there to be a rare height trait, he could have assigned all squiggles a height of 3 except those with a decPairs[27] raw value of 255. Those could have been given a height of something like 25 which would transform squiggle #8211 into this:

So, that “rare” height 4 isn’t really a discrete rarity—it just means the raw value was exactly 255. A value of 254 might be 3.996, but it still shows as 3. The apparent rarity of height 4 is more a quirk of how data is displayed rather than a true collectible attribute.

ht = map(decPairs[27], 0, 255, 3, 4); Here, a value from an array (derived from on-chain hash data) is mapped to a continuous number between 3 and 4. For example, squiggle #8211 has a raw height of 3.31—but marketplaces like Opensea round or truncate it to display just “3.”

Wow, that must make squiggles with a height of 4 super rare, right? Not exactly. If you take a look at the code, every squiggle actually gets a floating point height value of between 3 & 4.

If you look at the collection on Opensea, you’ll notice that all Chromie Squiggles are assigned a height trait – either 3 or 4. According to Opensea, there are 47 squiggles with a height of 4 & 9,953 squiggles with a height of 3.

Sidenote: segments & how the curves are drawn also have an impact on the overall height of a squiggle so the literal height trait is only a part of the equation.

The height trait acts as a compression variable where the higher the number, the more compressed the squiggle becomes. 4s are more compressed & 3s are taller.

I love Chromie Squiggles. One trait has always confused me though: Height So I dove into the code to demystify the height trait & discovered the apparent rarity of height 4 is more a quirk of how data is displayed rather than a true collectible attribute. Let me explain…

A huge win today – as a matter of law - XRP is not a security. Also a matter of law - sales on exchanges are not securities. Sales by executives are not securities. Other XRP distributions – to developers, to charities, to employees are not securities.
