🧵 4/6 Even as a preprint, DECOTA drew significant interest from policymakers for: • Rapid insight in time-sensitive situations • Scaling analysis to huge datasets • Supporting more interpretative qual work

🧵 3/6 We compared DECOTA’s performance to human thematic analysis, using 4 sample datasets. It identified: • 92% of all human-coded sub-themes • 90% of main themes … in just 10 minutes and $0.82 per dataset 💥

🧵 2/6 DECOTA uses fine-tuned LLMs to analyse open-ended data - with no human input needed. It outputs: • Themes & sub-themes in the data • Their prevalence • How they vary by demographic group • Example quotes
