60% of our children don’t speak English at home; some came in boats, or the boots of cars. Some have been evicted, living on food parcels.
Next week we will have statutory tests and our outcomes will be compared to the most affluent, stable and resourced schools in the country.

SATs aren’t a measure of anything. We need to remember that we are the only country who gets excited that 5 year old children can read words that don’t exist! You and your team are doing an amazing job. Remember the old adage: we measure what we value, we value what we measure
@llewelyn20
And the fact that you will have helped children with no English a year or two ago to actually be able to attempt the papers will be given no credit at all. I applaud both your and their amazing work and wish you well.
@llewelyn20
So frustrating. You and your team know what the important work is for your school community. I would say the other stuff is just noise but we both know the reality. However you'll keep balancing all those tricksy plates to do what's right cos that's what you do!
@llewelyn20
It must be exhausting and demoralising at times. Here's hoping you can look at your team, look in the mirror and know how important the work is that you do. So sorry you have to put up with the unnecessary stress of those useless tests.
@llewelyn20
Our percentages will be negatively affected by the children who arrived at the school with no English in Y4 but are expected to be ready to participate in SATs in Y6. I'd like the gov. to learn a new language to that level of competency in 2 years.
@llewelyn20
You are doing incredible work no-doubt, & your children & families value that, as do your colleagues within & beyond school. I bet the many children who arrive mid-year with no previous schooling or English end this year happy, safe & flourishing. Congratulations & thank you.
