12 years ago, I long listed for a TA job we had advertised for. I remember there were more than 50 applications and it took me ages.
Today, 2 people dropped out of our interviews for the same position. They were 2 of only 4 applicants.
What has happened?
Where are all the people?
@llewelyn20
I once had 104 applications for a TA (although not all qualified so they went straight on the no pile as didn’t meet ‘essential’) . Now I’d likely to have consider unqualified to have enough people to shortlist from
@llewelyn20
Are you showing on the job advert the following
- how well you value TAs
- a proper description of their role (not just a generic one)
- what sets you apart from other schools
- a proper sales pitch of your school?
The TA salary is so poor you really have to 'sell' the post
@llewelyn20
That was around the time when I tried to get into teaching. Tried to get a TA job so I could get on a PGCE course, it was more or less impossible.
@llewelyn20
I hope you don't mind me making a suggestion, but have you thought about having it as two part-time roles?
As a mum, I see jobs I'd love to do, but I can never commit to a full week.
Good luck with the recruitment. 💕
@llewelyn20
Could be lengthy and unnecessary recruitment processes. Days pouring over an application prepping a presentation, trying to figure out what the employer wants in interview answers plus short notice to come into interview.

Can I recommend Step Into Teaching? They are a supply agency that places graduates in school roles who are looking to train as tecahers. I have had great success with this organisation. We have 6 SIT colleagues working in my SEN dept now.
