Oakland violence prevention programs defunded by Trump administration. The Justice Department announced last week that it would terminate $811M in grants. Groups in Oakland stand to lose millions. https://t.co/PSSGyjb0pm

In honor of long COVID awareness day, I wanted to speak about what my experience is like, 25 months in. I am much better but still only leave the house a couple times a week. 1/

Alabama has executed Kenneth Smith with nitrogen gas. According to media witness @IvanaSuzette, Smith struggled, with "between two and four minutes of writhing and thrashing, and about five minutes of heavy breathing."

You know what's a fun FOIA? How much your town has spent on civil settlements to cover police misconduct in the last X years. It might be a much bigger % of the total budget than you'd expect. Oh and it usually doesn't come out of the police budget...it's separate.

There's a lot of misinformation swirling about #SB94. Here are the facts. SB 94: ✅Lets judges give a fresh look at LWOP sentences from the 70s & 80s ✅Prioritizes public safety & victim input every step of the way ✅Restores hope, a powerful tool to incentivize rehabilitation 📷

Great editorial in the @latimes in support of #SB50 to end stops for minor infractions -- a "failed crime strategy" that serves as a pretext for racialized surveillance, harassment, and abuse.

A broken taillight too often leads to racially disproportionate law enforcement, with an arrest and sometimes violent police encounter. Issuing citations for infractions through the mail makes more...

Let's top siphoning money away from marginalized families into a system we know is unjust! Let's call out this injustice and find a better pathway. Thank you @ib2_real and @SenJoshBecker

The most expensive basic soap and deodorant is in our State Prisons. The price gouging mark up hurts poor families desperately trying to provide their loved ones the basic essentials all human beings deserve. Today I joined @SenJoshBecker in calling for change.

Column: Support pedophiles or protect children? A false question roils California Legislature. @JonesSawyerAD57 is taking heat for asking the right questions. No one is pro-sex trafficking. But we should strive to get our laws right.

To be clear — Assembly Democrats are not advocating for pedophiles. The issue here is whether to expand the Three Strikes Law to include human trafficking. Here is the argument Smart Justice CA is making — #caleg

During what should have been a routine traffic stop last year, an LA sheriff’s deputy punched a mother in the face while she held her 3-week-old baby in her arms, begging authorities not to take her child. Story - and video - here: https://t.co/iy3SsGREt8

This part of OPD's internal affairs investigation into a homicide detective's actions that led to 2 murder convictions overturned was jaw-dropping to me. It's been accepted practice at OPD for officers to pay witnesses and not document this. Full story https://t.co/RMAXjCEA0j

📣🚦Racial disparities in pretext traffic stops cannot be ignored. They perpetuate profiling and escalate tensions between law enforcement and communities. #SB50 (@SenBradfordCA) is a key part of our justice agenda and is critical to advancing racial justice in CA.
