Legends of the Lake Iyake is steeped in myths. Locals believe the lake is bottomless. We watched as villagers demonstrated by hurling a massive rock into the water. For over 90 seconds, bubbles rose as it sank deeper, convincing many of its mysterious depth.

We also came across clusters of man-made mortar holes carved into the rocks, known in Yoruba as “Okuta Mọ́ lẹ̀ .” These served as grinding spots for pepper, yam, grains, and more. Their sheer number and spread suggested a community once thrived up here.
