@linuxopsys Silly statement regarding Arch vs Ubuntu. And then people don't understand why their new laptop/desktop doesn't run well on Linux. Don't be lazy to install Arch Linux to really enjoy Linux.

@linuxopsys I prefer taking the time to install my lean setup customised to my needs than doing dist-upgrades on a bloated system

@linuxopsys In 17 years Arch has never failed me and it also "just works" On my personal PC's, over the years I've had to do about 5 re-installs , when I've built a new PC or when I have royally fu*ked the thing up myself!

@linuxopsys You can just type `archinstall` in the live session installation after connecting to network using `iwctl`. Then use arrow, enter and back to configure options It is very easy now and this joke is old. Of course, using terminal than clicking button in UI is daunting to most users

@linuxopsys Just works, but after some updates it get break. Arch continues without any issues. Those 6 hours makes the difference.

@linuxopsys Ubuntu is just bloated debian with more bugs S/ the biggest bug being ufw You want real stability stay away from canonical and just do a .deb install If you want to know your system and how it works or think building is fun then give arch a spin

@linuxopsys in 15 years Ubuntu has never let me down maintaining servers in Houston, London and Cape Town became quite boring

@linuxopsys Why just don't try EndeavourOS, Garuda, Manjaro ? EndeavourOS is so easy to install, it will default to BTRFS, you can use btrfs-assistant and btrfsmaintance to keep the filesystem ok. You can choose grub or systemd-boot.. LUKs.. everything during the installation.

@linuxopsys Then Ubuntu breaks down magically 2 days after and Arch runs like a champ for years.

@linuxopsys Ubuntu takes longer to setup, just going from a USB drive in laptop to working system compared to Arch. Arch is plug drive, partition, connect to WiFi, archinstall and good to go

@linuxopsys If I want an out-of-the-box OS, I would use a MacBook. I used bespoke Arch with dotfiles in a Git repo and a Bash setup script, ready 15 minutes after a fresh install. Now I use NixOS with configs in a repo. 👌 Ubuntu is fine if you just want Linux for someone who doesn't

@linuxopsys Ubuntu sucks. The main reason why people hate Linux is because they try Ubuntu first and when something doesn't work (most time SOMETHING is going to bug you – for me it was volume slider not working for speakers), it takes serious effort to debug it.

@linuxopsys I bet you learned a lot more setting up arch along the way. I spent more than 6 hours setting up “advanced” linux distros but I can say I gained more than setting up an easy one :)

@linuxopsys Ubuntu works barely, at least is not what it used to be, Arch and all the rolling release distros offer better support and to say that ArchWiki is the best is an understatement, if you want to have the best of both worlds try something like Manjaro, you won't regret it!! 😁
