Physician entrepreneurship is challenging because the opportunity cost of the market alternative remains high. However, the alternative is also a recipe for burnout. Physician career longevity is in jeopardy given the current state of American healthcare where physician.
If you are currently in medical school or in residency, know this:. Being salaried by a hospital, health system, corporation, or private equity are not your only four options. In fact, you can just do things. You have all the power and all the leverage, but you’re the only one.

This is a really nice example of carefully taking a curved needle into an area of a treated vertebral body with residual fracture cleft/edema. Transdiscal approach. Very cool.
Curved needles and cement cannulas are helpful for targeting focal fracture clefts. Small T8 superior endplate cleft after otherwise sufficient kypho at OSH was not amenable to pedicular access. Transdiscal access from above made for an easy fix.

My journey is chronicled on I did not enjoy standard IR/DR hospital based practice (2018-2020), so I left to open an OBL with a cardiologist (2020-2021). Left that practice to do several years of independent contracting with both.
Live @SIRspecialists we are seeing more and more #IRAD practices choosing #independence instead of alignment with #DR or #PE practices. If this is you or if you are considering #independence please tell us who you are so we can collectively learn from your journey. 🙌.

Yes. Not to take away from the good work and expertise of Dr. Hawkins. Very good insights, but @shamitsdesai’s point is very true. The more we can be concerned, as a specialty, of our impact in the community setting the better our future will be. Demonstrating that value is.
@saherssabri @SIRspecialists This episode is good, but doesn’t impact the sites where 85+% of patient admissions are nationally… 250 bed or less community hospitals. Focusing on transplant, oncology, and trauma as 3 pillars of “worth”. With respect, an academic & myopic bent. Need a follow up ep.
