This semester we're finally dipping into Linux!.But!.On the side I'm looking into learning more about money management. So far finding it very odd everyone seems to approach it like a boot camp or big mind blowing secret harnessed by financial walocks.

I do, and it is terribly in need of updating.

Can I share a work pet peeve? Cause I'm gonna. It's when a co-worker, or boss, is showing you around and says the best way to contact them is through email/whatever, and follow it with "Because I don't really keep my phone on me during work"

No lie, this has been me today during my first official shift. Felt a total disconnect from new coworkers and hope it’s just first day jitters that will fade once we’re all too busy actually working.

One of the fun things about going back to work is assembling wardrobe. One of the fun things about THAT is peeking into the corporate goth suggestions from Google and seeing people that have very evidently NEVER worked with a dress code in their life.

Im doing some early spring cleaning and found paystubs from my pre-pandemic job. I want to throw up. I remember the anxiety and bone-deep tiredness. Seeing that it all added up to paychecks totaling under $500 (before taxes even) feels inhuman.

Date I applied, soft rejection received today. Imagine if this was my last hope for a job. I'd be committed by this point.

The internet is also now more than ever a ruthless kind of place where asking something like "can i bring my parent" would get shredded, so I can see why it's not something a fresh-out-of-school person would ask.

To sprinkle nuance I can see where the line gets drawn between this is a full adult now and should be employing critical thinking and autonomy vs the system has been ground from a process of preparation to a smooth brain pool slide dumping out unprepared job seekers.

I'm firmly in the camp that sees the "gen z can't even write a cheque" as a failing of their parents, not the child who'd never think to even ask.

This article's blowing up on LinkedIn and comes with the usual snickering at the youngin's for not knowing what's what but I think it reflects poorly on the system that was meant to prepare them for the 'real world' rather than "ha ha these kids are dumb".

Gotta introduce myself enough that co-workers understand the vibe, but no gallows humor yet.

I also really really have not at all mastered the art of fun-but-professionally-distanced About Me blurbs.

Going through the onboarding process for a new job (clap, please.) and the process is so drastically different from the last time I was brought on. Technology and the ability to do most of the process remotely is so wild and convenient.

I’m always happy for people expanding their families etc, but there’s no dreadful feeling like a content creator you’ve been following announcing their pregnancy and knowing their feed is about to become nothing but mom-blogging for the foreseeable future.

I mean at this point, might as well.
