That said, my grandfather blasted Nazi combatants out of the sky. He returned to America damaged but ever proud of his duty and service. But, I could always sense his killer instinct. That is what the war instilled in him. For better and for worse, ultimately.

My grandfather *more than likely* killed a bunch of people in World War II, but he never knew about it, and therefore neither did any of us. He used to shoot down enemy planes. But he didn’t get a body count, and he was part of a unit that was all equally involved.
