11 years ago I would doodle cartoons of One Direction in my science class. I would recreate Louis Tomlinson’s outfits for school. Now I’m photographing Louis tomorrow and prepping the collage that going with it. What even is life right now.
Spent all day making these animated sequence of
@Louis_Tomlinson

He walked towards my direction of the photo pit, I froze and thought I was going to pass out and then my brain was like “Liam start pressing buttons NOW” and that’s how I got the photos I got 😂
The photos aren’t even edited yet and so much love already. Anytime I ever doubt myself, I’ll think about how the Louis Stan’s popped off with all the support ❤️❤️

As someone who has been waiting for the day my work was seen and adored by so many people in such a short amount of time, this weekend has been absolutely incredible. I hope you all stick around for the rest of the journey and dw more Louis photos are coming I just need to rest.
No one:
The lighting director about to put red and blue lighting for the first three songs and then put the lights to white the moment the concert photographers leave the pit:
Tonight was one of the hardest shoots I’ve ever done. Not only did I have to shoot from the crowd but also shoot in the bluest light I’ve ever witnessed. Photoshop and Lightroom, be prepared for an all nighter you’re not ready.
Shoutout to Forrest Hills for having an ADA seating area on the GA floor for folks with disabilities to get front row just like everyone else. So many venues I’ve photographed at don’t even have this and I’m happy I’m seeing this. Concerts are better when they’re accessible!
As a concert photographer, it can be intimidating going to a new venue. I created the Concert Photo Venue Index to help. This sheet is where folks can write their insight on venues and everything one may need to know before photographing there.
Everyone: wow you take great pictures, love to know your creative process. What do you think about as you’re taking photos in the photo pit?
Me: I don’t
photogrpahers don’t need to be content creators in order to be successful. also if you’re only hiring someone because they have a bunch of followers you’re missing out on some incredible talent.
The photo pit had 15 people in it last night. It was one of the tightest photo pits I’ve ever been in. Instead of arguing and pushing, before the set we all got together and made a plan to make sure we all got the shots we needed and move effectively during the set.
It’s very easy to over romanticize concert photography. A lot of people see the photos we take and think “They must be living the life.” I love what I do and wouldn’t trade it for anything but this shit is hard. It’s a lot of rejection, self doubt, and more.
3 Things I Wish Knew Before Starting Concert Photography
1. 10 great photos will get you farther than 90 okay ones.
2. You could have covered the biggest artist in the world and still get rejected.
3. Being a good writer can lead you to more opportunities.
It’s really cool being in the photo pit and seeing a fan at the barricade with their point and shoot. I’m glad people are not letting not having a photo pass stop them from concert photography especially doing it in an ethical way.
Literally been waiting to get the perfect drummer pic for nearly 2 years now. I’m so happy rn. Properly exposed, no cymbals in the face, and close to the stage. It was a miracle.
Hello photographers, can you all reply/quote tweet with a photo(s) which are your like 'wow I took that' kinda photos. Photos that when you look back you are still so proud of and just still impressed you took.
I want to see everyone hyped themselves and each other a bit
Concert photographers are not intentionally trying to cut you in line and block your view in order to make you mad. We’re here to do a job, we ask kindly for space for a bit so we can get the shots we need and photos for you all to share. Thank you!
My senior year of college, I took a photography class and my professor said one of my photos did not have enough joy in it and said “Take a picture of joy” so my petty 21 year old self literally took a picture of the word joy. I got an A-
Being a short guy, photographing concerts from the crowd with no photo pit can be really tough sometimes. Last night I was on some stairs trying to get some photos when a photographer stopped in their place and pulled me to the stage and gave me their step stool+
Honey I making it far in this industry every damn day. I’m covering some of the biggest artists in world and I’ll let you know I didn’t get here by tearing down other photographers and other music industry professionals. I’m only going up from here!
What it costs to be a music photographer in 2023:
Being kind in the photo pit: $0
Amplifying the art and voices of women, LGBTQ, BIPOC, disabled photographers: $0
Not putting bad takes on Twitter: $0
Emphasizing community over competition: $0
A year ago today I attended Night 13 of HSLOT. The next morning I called my former boss and simply said “I quit.” I knew it was time to really go all in with concert photography and wow what a wild year it’s been.

I went to go pick up my photo pass for tonight and the person at the box office said “oh so you’re the color correcting wizard” and now I’m blushing in my seat. Thank you Gramercy Theatre!
Mark my words, I’ll be the first transgender man to win iHeart Radio’s Tour Photographer of the Year one day and am going to work my ass off to get there.
9 years ago today, 16 year old me laid in bed sad after realizing I was transgender and was so scared of how life would go for me. Here I am now living my life, seen as the man I am, and grateful I stuck it out. It’s still hard but I’ve come very far since that night.
Being a concert photographer means listening to new music that comes out and the first thing you think of is “damn this singer is so talented it’s going to be rough to get a photo pass”
On this episode of “Photorapher’s Don’t Gatekeep” to everyone who keeps asking me how I did this… I sneezed as I was adjusting my settings. That’s all.

April 2022: a fan with a phone in the crowd.
September 2023: a concert photographer covering the artist that got him into concert photography in the first place. Anything is possible.

If you’re ever feeling behind as a concert photographer, remember that the photographers you look up to missed out on a whole year and a half of live music because of covid and had to regrow and rebuild as concert photographers. Don’t give up.
If I ever become a tour photographer, I’d love to have a new photographer shadow me for every city. That’s one of my biggest goals as a music photographer; always giving back.
First they’re posting about how point and shoot photos are “not acceptable,” next they’re saying people need to stop using lens filters, prisms, etc. damn do the people in these Facebook concert photography groups have anything better to do? Let people create how they want to!
The Oscar nominations proved the entire point of the Barbie movie. You could be a woman that stars and/or directs a film that makes over a billion dollars and reaches international success and still don’t get nominated for best director or leading actress.
My college just invited me to come and speak about my journey in the music industry as a transgender man and tell my story of life post grad. I’m so grateful right now you have no idea.
WAITING FOR THE RAIN is coming to North America 🌧️

Reminder that your attitude matters in the photo pit. Concert photographers are judged so quickly/not taken seriously. One bad egg can not only potentially lead to unflattering photos but also becomes the reason why a singer or band no longer allows any media.
