🤝 What this means for policy: Policymakers need to address both procedural fairness for asylum seekers and distributive fairness for host countries to craft policies that are sustainable and gain public support.

🚫 Interestingly, fairness perceptions DO NOT change based on the national origin of asylum seekers (e.g., Sudanese or Syrian). This suggests fairness values are more universal than we might expect.

Distributive Fairness: People also want fairness for the host country. There’s support for limits on asylum applications if numbers are high. People also want an EU-wide approach to ease the burden and ensure fairness across Member States.

Procedural Fairness: People care that asylum seekers get a fair process, like the right to appeal and access to legal advice. This isn’t just about national interests—it’s about fundamental fairness for those in need. ⚖️.

Our study on public perceptions of fairness in Germany and Italy explores how people view fairness in asylum decision-making, focusing on procedural fairness for asylum seekers and distributive fairness for host countries. 🤔.
