Universities often name campus spaces “commons,” which are in name only. But Columbia students have created a true commons at the Gaza Solidarity Encampment: collectivized space w food, shelter, clothing, medicine for all, many cultural, recreational, & religious activities (1/2)

Important. Bombing in a time of climate catastrophe add to the genocidal dimensions of this, & affects all of humanity.

🇵🇸 We do not need the climate crisis to condemn the ongoing Palestinian genocide. We raise our voices regardless of the environmental impact of the terrifying bombing. However, this impact is far from negligible: here are some facts you might want to know. (1/3)

Now over 30 Uni's looking at closures and implementing redundancy schemes, 10 added to this list in the past 24 hours alone. ⬇️Where is @ucu's national stance? Where is @UKLabour? Why is nobody talking about the fact that UK HE is literally crumbling around us? Wake up!

@qm_ucu have created a live web page of all the closures and redundancies in UK Higher Education. There’s currently over 20 Uni’s and the list is growing by the day.

I'm tweeting about work stuff because part of my job as a freelancer is to remind people of the work I do so that I can get more work. But I feel totally mad doing it at the moment - children are dying of starvation in Gaza. We cd stop this. And we aren't. https://t.co/7HDYdBJAww

These days, every time we manage a glimmer of excitement in class - delight in what language can do, what literature can change, why life might be worth living purely in itself - it strikes me how these moments are getting rarer and rarer under marketisation

my late Mother once said about her experience during the Nazi holocaust: “It was not a war; it was an extermination.  We were like cockroaches, scurrying this way or that whenever the light shone on us.”

It’s absolutely horrifying that a SOAS student was raided and arrested this morning for speaking up against Israeli genocide. If you can get to Hammersmith station, there will be a demo from 5pm TODAY!

I’m sorry to announce that our event today will not be moving forward, as our chair, a SOAS student, was raided and arrested at 7 am for giving a speech at the SOAS Palestine protest. I strongly ask everyone to show solidarity & help spread the word.

I taught my first UG seminar of term on Friday and have just put my finger on why I left feeling so bad. Classes have been overcrowded since I arrived at Bristol - 20 students per class is a poor offering - but every term the room I am allocated gets smaller and smaller

Oh sweet summer times when lyrics like 'hey man you're never coming back' could evoke tortuous love relationships. Never coming back are landscapes of our childhoods, friends of our youth, dreams we had, people we loved and people we were, but also our naivety, but also our fear.

Nearly ONE HUNDRED PROFESSORS killed--not one word from Western universities. One hundred professors.

We condemn with all our force Israel's killing of at least 94 Palestinian academics in Gaza. We mourn every one of our colleagues. We find it unconscionable that virtually no western university has said a single word.

This is the devastating j'accuse of the century spoken in the voice of decolonisation. Regardless of what the judges do or bow to, history has been made.

Maksym Kryvtsov was a wonderful poet and Ukrainian defender. He was killed today defending us from erasure. We won’t fade away. We won’t fade away. We won’t fade away. And we will never forget.

This picture was shot in April 2023 when I reunited my dear dad after 5 years of forced separation. We enjoyed the most blissful daughter-dad bonding times. He returned to his beloved Gaza, his green land that he called "my heaven on earth" & his daily morning routine 🏊🏽 he loved
