Labor can’t set targets without releasing this report, and they can’t keep hiding from the reality of the climate crisis. We need strong science-based 2035 targets - and that means net zero emissions, and no new coal and gas.

Climate targets aren’t just figures on a page. The climate crisis is causing life or death events for people and communities experiencing worsening natural disasters. Australians need to know what climate impacts are in store.

Labor is trying to bury the National Climate Risk Assessment to avoid legitimate scrutiny before they announce 2035 climate targets. The Greens successfully demanded the release of the report in parliament weeks ago, but the clock is ticking to the 25 August deadline.

The gender pay gap is driven by the undervaluation of female-dominated work, workplace discrimination, lack of workplace flexibility, access to childcare, and the unequal load of unpaid caring responsibilities. Closing it is a task for both employers and government.

The report also looked at intersectional gender pay gap data for First Nations people, culturally and linguistically diverse communities and migrants. Researchers found that First Nations women face the highest gender pay gaps, with a 10-year gap of 38.1%.

The gender pay gap is wider and worse in occupations dominated by any gender. Male-dominated industries: men are paid more. Female-dominated industries: men are paid more. And only 1 in 5 workers work in gender-balanced occupations!.

A new Jobs & Skills Australia Report has confirmed that men out-earn women in 98% of the 688 occupations they analysed. Surprise! The gender pay gap is real and not just because we’re working less paid hours or don’t want to get our hands dirty.

The roundtable should look at reforming tax settings for parents returning to work, including the interaction of family tax benefits, student loan repayments and childcare subsidies. And of course boost income supports above the poverty line!.

Good to see Treasury agrees! Last month the Greens called for the Treasurer’s upcoming Roundtable to shift our economy to better help mothers re-enter the workforce. Our current tax system means a second parent, usually a mum, works additional days for virtually no take home pay.

The Greens are calling on Labor to follow the science - set 2035 targets at net-zero, stop new coal & gas - or risk losing our Reef, its immense biodiversity and the 60,000 jobs it sustains. Anything below net zero means more than 2° of warming, in breach of the Paris Agreement.

The Great Barrier Reef has suffered the largest decline in coral cover since monitoring began, in a mass bleaching event caused by climate change-induced heat stress. Sea temps keep getting warmer because of successive governments’ failure to cut emissions.

We need bold commitments on truth telling, treaties, action on systemic racism, incarceration rates & serious funding/action to actually Close the Gap. The Greens are ready to work with Gov to ensure we deliver justice, healing & self-determination for First Nations communities.

The announcements by the PM at Garma do not meet the invitation from First Nations leaders for deeper commitments. There was no mention of a federal truth-telling process. There was no reference to free, prior & informed consent for projects, a key basis of self-determination.

If big coal & gas keep getting to negotiate their environmental conditions, it’s clear the corporations and not the environment minister is in charge!.

Murray Watt says his department is still in discussions with Woodside on the environmental conditions for the North West Shelf approval. What kind of insidious lobbying is Woodside doing to weaken whatever the conditions were? Was the 2070 blank cheque not enough?.

While Labor still refuses to sanction Israel, end the two-way arms trade, or even recognise Palestine - people have had enough. Words won't feed starving kids. Until Australia adds to the growing pressure on Israel to stop blockading aid, the engineered famine will kill people.

The March for Humanity across Australia should be a wake-up call for politicians who refuse to take action to end the genocide. Thousands of people from all walks of life demanding in historic numbers that the government sanction Israel. Labor cannot - must not - ignore them.

The Greens are so pleased the Senate just unanimously passed bill for a national code to prevent & respond to gender-based violence on uni campuses. The code will help prevent & tackle sexual violence on campus, and would not have happened without tenacious survivor advocates.
