Cruel and cynical politicians are whipping up fear, hate, and paranoia about the trans community to distract from what’s really going on. But we won’t let them. It’s billionaires and big corporations making life worse for all of us, not trans people.

Today for Trans Day of Remembrance, we honour the memory of the trans lives lost to acts of transphobia and discrimination. Trans and gender-diverse people deserve safety, dignity and real respect – their right to exist is not up for debate.

The PM never really wanted to host a climate conference that needed him to be honest about the future of coal and gas while his mining corp mates are watching. The world sees the massive disconnect between Labor’s words and actions. Losing this climate conference is the result.

It was clear from the start that Labor didn’t really want to host the CoP climate summit. Labor didn’t want to be grilled by the world over the North West Shelf gas extension, or their 31 coal and gas approvals, or their pathetic climate target.

Like many of you, I am sick of abortion access being weaponised in Trumpian style culture wars. Everyone deserves access to safe, legal and affordable reproductive healthcare. That is the bare minimum, and we'll keep fighting for it.

SA's anti-abortion bill, blocking critical access to healthcare, was an attempt by conservatives to use women's rights as a political football. To those who made their voices heard & voted this bill down, thankyou. We deserve evidence-based & compassionate healthcare.

Experts & communities know we must act now on climate change if we are to turn this ship around. The Coalition are climate dinosaurs. Labor needs to stop caving to its corporate donors & fossil fuel mates, and pass laws that protect nature & the climate.

As usual, conservatives want to turn the climate crisis into a culture war. If Labor want to hold onto their last shred of credibility on climate and the environment, the PM must immediately stand up and rule out a deal with the coalition on enviro laws.

Who would have thought that Scott Morrison - who brought coal into parliament & fled to Hawaii as we were ravaged by bushfires - would have had a more progressive climate policy than this coalition? Net zero brain cells between the Nationals and the Liberals.

In continuing to pick around the edges of the housing crisis, Labor continues to fail women. We desperately need to tackle the housing crisis head on – end tax handouts for wealthy property investors, freeze and cap rents, build more public housing. The time to act is now.

The housing crisis is being felt most acutely by women and their children, including single mothers, low income families, and women forced to leave unsafe homes. And on the very front line of this crisis are First Nations women, women of colour & women with disabilities.

The gender pay gap means women need longer to save for a house deposit. Only 1-3% of rentals are affordable for full-time workers in female-dominated professions like teaching & nursing. And women over 55 are the fastest growing cohort of homeless people in the country.

Here’s your annual reminder that the housing crisis is a women’s issue.

Let's be clear: This is a failed approach, being pushed by a Government unwilling to put forward a justice policy to actually make Victoria safer. Labor needs to invest in prevention and diversion for young people rather than cutting those programs.

Research shows that harsher and longer sentences are linked to higher rates of reoffending and worse outcomes for young people. It simply doesn't work. We need to invest in what does - prevention, housing and mental health, but Vic Labor continues to cut funding in these areas.

Introducing life sentences for children isn't just reactionary politics proven to fail time and time again, it's a racist dog-whistle to the far right. It's clear Vic Labor would rather import failed policies from a conservative Liberal Gov than address community safety.

This result is a reminder to us all that better things are possible, we should expect more and together we can demand change! Congratulations to @ZohranKMamdani and New Yorkers who voted for a mayor who believes that the government’s job is to actually make people lives better.

New York has elected a mayor that ran on a platform of putting people ahead of corporate interests and billionaires. It should not be surprising to see that this is a popular message, but for some people (*cough - Labor*) it seems a foreign concept.
