Inspection was done for the 235KM Garsen-Hola-Madogo (Garissa) Road section currently under rehabilitation. The Road connects to the Mwingi-Kilmambogo-Isiolo-Moyale route, connecting Lamu Port to various hinterland markets and Ethiopia as part of the LAPSSET alternative routes.

Inter-Agency Marketing Committee toured the Lamu-Ijara-Garissa Rd. The 249km Road is undergoing stage construction (1.5M fill, Sub grade, cement seal, double surface dressing) . Construction works capable of sustaining heavy tonnage, will take about 24 months.

In line with the big 4 agenda, the Lamu Special Economic Zone has been planned to host heavy, medium, light industries and the service sector, boosting the manufacturing sector and exportation of locally processed goods through Lamu Port.
The President further expressed satisfaction with the progress of the ongoing construction works at the seaport saying the project will create the much needed jobs for Kenyan youth.
