Deal at COP16 on a new strategy to boost finance for biodiversity and support the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

Update: The final plenary was supposed to start more than an hour ago, but as in most COPs, countries rarely respect the timing. It's now resuming. 🇨🇴 Susana Muhamad, COP16 pres, opens saying "let the force be with us, with the time."

Following that, countries will reconvene again in plenary at 9 p.m. and (hopefully) adopt a deal on all pending decisions, incl. a strategy to mobilize financial resources and a monitoring framework to track progress toward the goals of the Kunming-Montreal biodiv framework.

Update: Plenary just resumed. COP16 President Susana Muhamad of 🇨🇴 says that "there was constructive discussion" in the afternoon, which led to "a very well advanced proposal." That potential new compromise will now be cleaned and published at 7:30pm for all countries to review.

Plenary was supposed to reconvene an hour ago. Unsurprisingly negotiations are still ongoing in a small group in a separate closed room. No breakthrough in sight just yet. Bracing ourselves for a long night!
