At long last, victory has been won for the Bruce family: The Board of Supervisors has voted unanimously to return Bruce’s Beach to the great-grandsons of Willa and Charles Bruce. After more than a year of hard work, today we have made history and taken a step towards justice.

We do still need the State to lift restrictions and let the property be transferred from the @CountyofLA to the Bruce family. That’s why we also passed another motion sponsoring SB 796, a bill introduced in the Legislature by Sen. @SteveBradford which does just that.

The votes are in: LA County will begin the process of returning Bruce’s Beach to the descendants of Charles and Willa Bruce 👏👏👏 We’ve given the green light to my proposal with @HollyJMitchell to have us draft a master plan to get this done as quickly and smartly as we can.

We just approved my plan to re-examine the State funding LA County receives from #AB109 to manage our jails. We have a rare opportunity to get away from our over-reliance on incarceration & re-invest in treatment & services. I believe we should take it.
