UPDATE: I waited for him, because FINE and because shooters shoot. And as luck would have it, both of our flights are delayed. So now we’re at Fridays 😏.
Saw a big fine ass Black man going through customs. We maintained eye contact the entire time we looped the lines. The shooter in me would’ve stopped once we made it through, but I had to rush to my connecting flight — only to find out it’s delayed by two hours 🙄🙃.
Congratulations to Morgan State, Coppin, University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Bowie State for winning their 15 year lawsuit against the state of Maryland. The four HBCUs will be awarded $577M in a settlement that accused the state of purposely underfunding the institutions.
19 years ago in 2003, Beyoncé starred in her 1st Pepsi commercial. Later that year The Fighting Temptations was released, starring a kid actress cast to play a young Bey. 19 years after her mentor’s ad for the brand, Chlöe has one too. You couldn’t write it more perfect.
I work for the two Black owned networks that currently do this and y'all don't support it. People *say* they want this kind of programming, but our weekly Research meetings (ratings) say otherwise.
I still think about how BET really still missed the bag with creating actual meaningful content such as black cooking, home improvement, crafting shows and not just black people embarrassing themselves or baby boy being played everyday
The more I think about romantic relationships and the blending of two lives the more I think about how selfless you truly have to be - no matter what stage you're in. It is truly a skill.

We have plenty. They're called the NAACP Image Awards, the BET Awards, the Soul Train Awards, the BET Hip Hop Awards, Black Women in Music, Black Women in Hollywood, the Trumpet Awards, the Stellar Awards -- y'all just don't watch.
I don't work for Viacom, but I do work for another network and we get these questions often. The reason you dont see "classics" is because the licensing fee has expired and/or too expensive to repurchase, especially if most of the show has music in it.
I kinda forgot how programming works lol, but SURELY MTV has their classic shows somewhere in the vault right? They’re missing out hard by not having them available during this quarantine.
And what a six month ride it's been for Dominique Fishback. Project Power with Jamie Foxx in August and Akua Njeri in February.

😮💨 the deets:
- 3 year partnership
- deal took 6 months (SKIMS pitched)
- on court virtual signage at WNBA/NBA All Star, USA exhibition, in season games
Other notables:
- sold Ethika undergarments via licensing
- MJ + Hanes had a 30 year relationship
@oliviadope
If I have children I want them to see/know how much their father and I love each other and have sex regularly. I've seen what the opposite does to a kid. I was that kid.
A THREAD. As some of our states start to re-open and men are slowly returning back to their [manufactured] fine, let us never forget that haircuts are the equivalent to lashes and makeup.
And yet and still, this isn’t a rebrand. There was no change in name, logo, or aesthetic. What you’re witnessing is the maturation process of an artist, both in musicality and stage presence, and as a person. That’s it. Doing a press run at “unlikely” outlets is just good PR.
Yesterday I co-produced the 30th Anniversary

20+ years ago I spent my Friday nights with them.
Full circle is an UNDERSTATEMENT.
This is your annual reminder that in 2019, as a Design intern, a Black girl from an HBCU had the idea to make Spotify Wrapped, a desktop only experience, shareable. May we forever keep Jewel Ham’s name alive.
Today, on the 10th anniversary of The Lip Bar, Melissa Butler launched her second brand, Thread Beauty, ALSO sold at Target.
In 2015 she was laughed out of the room after being rejected on Shark Tank.
Keep going.
@keywilliamss
Girl. GIRL. I remember when we pulled Roland Martin's show. The network was dragged on here, the NAACP made a statement condemning the decision, etc. The petty in me wanted to ask why didn't all these folks watch when it was on, because the numbers were lower than low.
Public institutions go through SO much that private HBCUs don't have to worry about. It is why I will always speak up and out for our institutions. I had the opportunity to speak at Bowie in 2019 and the pride was infectious. Beyond happy for them.
Don't let them make you mean.

I’ve been encouraged to reevaluate what tribe and community look like for me at my current age and be okay that it actually may not include those I thought it would. As we evolve we realize what we once desired from the ‘ships in our lives, no longer hold as much value.

@JasmynBeKnowing
called it and I ABSOLUTELY agree. Watching Will Smith purposefully only choose Black media (TSR, Trevor Noah, All the Smoke) on his Emancipation press tour (so far) is exceptionally genius and a testament to the loyalty and support of our community.
Wrapped production on The Real today.
- Third longest running daytime talk show in Warner Brothers history ('13-'22).
- The ONLY talk show in TELEVISION history with no white people cast.
- Saw us Trending? On TSR? In the headlines? You welcome 😜.
Forever proud of me.
I love these super deep interviews, but I wanna know what's my girl's go-to drink, how poppin' her group chats are, her favorite cuss world, & what's something her and Alan fight about.
@solangeknowles
let me know when you're free.
"Over the last 10 years, we’ve become more understanding and supportive of multidimensional artists, but there’s still such a long way to go." -

This is absolutely correct. I've worked with both of them, at the same time, more than once and I've legitimately never seen their type of love before. It's beyond beautiful.
In 2018 Malika Andrews joined ESPN as an Online NBA writer. In 2020 she made history as the youngest sideline reporter at The Bubble. Tonight, she does it again as the youngest to host the NBA Finals Trophy presentation at 26. Hope you're feeling the love tonight

Some news. I'm celebrating one month of

Let's talk movies. 'Bad Boys For Life' raked in $73.4M this weekend, making it Sony's biggest R-rated opening ever and the industry's second highest movie opening in January. It also becomes Martin Lawrence's biggest career opening. The budget: $90M. Screens: 3,775.
Tons of TV news today. Viola Davis will play Michelle Obama in Showtime's new series, 'First Ladies'. This will mark the first time our forever First Lady has been portrayed on television.
@juliettemitchel
Yeah, advertising is definitely a tricky lane if ratings aren't strong. I can't speak to Centric's programming but
@mycleotv
has lifestyle and cooking shows, both on air and on its site. Here are a few.
I also support
@moworldwide
because unlike many people, I actually worked with her in 2017 (as a producer for Tom Joyner) and had NO issues. Not one. So miss me with what everybody else says.

There’s so much discourse about Keith Lee needing a team/publicist re: his interview w. KevOnStage, that revealed the sometimes questionable routes he took to solidifying a relationship w. his wife. But I think *we’re* the ones who currently are the problem, not him.
I'm also learning more and more every day that there are stages where I'll need to show up "more" and possibly even fall back a bit to accommodate and support. Both can be extremely difficult but definitely lessons worth learning.
I admittedly said this last month but had to check myself today because:
Grey's Anatomy. Chicago Med. New Amsterdam. The Good Doctor. The Resident. Nurse Jackie. Code Black. House. Scrubs. ER, etc.
We often unfairly do this to Black shows but not those with white casts.
This time last year I was at Basel on my company’s dime, partying until 6a — having the time of my life. Completely comfortable + secure. This year I’m catching the train to my temp assignment 8 months after being let go from that cushy job. And I don’t feel one ounce of FOMO.
I love when y'all get new jobs. It really shows me what is possible. And yes, I know, anything is, but sometimes you don't know a position is a thing until you see someone occupy it.
Just spent six days in Sint Maarten for my birthday and as ambitious as I am — the older I get, the less of a desire I have for the work I so famously loved. Burnout and professional politics and just…life, makes me want to say goodbye to every thing I know.
I won’t speak as if I’m a Bethune Cookman graduate, but as one from Grambling — good riddance. As predicted, instead of only issuing the statement that the terms of his contract couldn’t be met, Ed Reed is already on Live doing the SAME things he apologized last week for.
Starbucks is looking for a Senior Writer/Storyteller. Based is Seattle but can be remote (must be available during PST business hours). Hit me for deets.
@keywilliamss
And I typically do, I promise I dooooo. But I was just annoyed on both the BET "missed the mark" stance and then the "we wanna watch Black cooking/home improvement shows" when Research shows you and your demographic literally watch the OPPOSITE.
And that statement is not aimed at DonYe specifically, but Black people gotta stop asking for new shit and support the Black shit we've had, some for 50+ years. All of these shows air on television. Interested in supporting? Google their air dates and tune in. Simple.

need all of their flowers for creating one of the most successful franchises in move history. Scary Movie debuted 20 years ago this month with a $19M budget. It made $278M. A thread on SM by the numbers.
Another lesson I'm actively learning is what to do with feelings of lack when it's a "it's not about you" situation. It's the delicate dance of being patient and selfless, but making sure you're also fulfilled.
My last day at TV One is Thursday and I start my new job on Monday. I also added a sunscreen and Vitamin C + E oil to my skincare regimen. Life is good. God is greater.
It is perfectly fine if you opted for a PWI over an HBCU. It starts to get weird when Black people are hell bent in turning their PWI mindset, experience, etc. into anything HBCU related — especially since you decided against attending. It’s not homage, it’s disrespect.

One thing them Millers gone do is put their money where their mouth is. Love, LOVE that Hercy (Master P's son) chose Tennessee State. Fun Fact: TSU is the alma mater of the ONLY HBCU graduate in the league, Portland Trailblazers' Robert Covington.
Thinking of all the little Black kids in Jackson being inspired at this moment — future athletes, sports reporters, etc. in THEIR hometown? This makes me so undeniably happy. Our students deserve all of this — been deserved. Regardless who is at the helm.
Today, for the first time, College GameDay is live from Jackson State University.
JSU is the first SWAC campus to ever host the ESPN pregame show and just the 4th HBCU.
