That's a wrap! Closing out a historic year by recording two albums in two weeks at 25th Street Recording in Oakland, including music by @NicoleLizee, @rimbanna, Jonathan Berger, @hildurness, Neil Young, and .

We're currently in the studio recording them all--Kronos's first all-Lizée record coming soon!.

Another memorable and proud moment was when he composed and performed ‘Pallavi’ for KQ’s Fifty For The Future project. Now not only Kronos but also any group in the world can have the thrilling experience of performing with Zakir Hussain's amazing artistry.

I remember looking over at Zakir who was beaming as he made what seemed like impossible melodic, rhythmic cascades.

a wide variety of dazzling sound makers. And then there was the time Zakir anchored our 80th birthday concert for Terry Riley with his inimitable playing of ‘Sunrise of the Planetary Dream Collector’.

What became ‘You’ve Stolen My Heart’ began with Zakir making the ingenious, sonically propulsive and inventive rhythm tracks for each RD Burman song on tabla, many relatives of the tabla, an assortment of hand drums, a specially fashioned trap set requiring a tennis ball and ….

It was Terry Riley who introduced Zakir to Kronos in the early 1980’s. We enjoyed many unforgettable experiences together. The time he showed up with his truck full of percussion instruments to lay down tracks for our album with Asha Bhosle stands out.

Zakir grabbed patterns from the hidden physics of music and he created beats like no one Kronos Quartet has ever performed with. His sense of the beat made a metronome sound uneven and somehow off kilter.
