Sharing your experiences and insights with the world could help someone become healthier, happier, safer, more secure, etc. Well worth the cost of a few weirdos being all “Who are you to give advice” if it hits someone who really needs to hear your specific message (and there is)

In general, it seems like people (parents / elders) are strangely reluctant to share big-picture (but specific) life advice about e.g. relationships, what to value, what provides meaning, what is ultimately hollow, etc Growing up I mostly learned about “how to do school better”

I think it’s important for us to power through that and share what we’ve learned about the world and ourselves. Truth-based advice (even just neutral reporting of “this was my experience”) can go so far when it comes to helping people avoid mistakes or break out of bad patterns

I sometimes get the feeling there is negative energy around advice-giving. Partly because it’s hard to know if the advice is good (giver credibility), and there’s a social incentive to be an authority or “guru” (incentive to tell people what they want to hear / self-style). But…

Welp the rabbit has the gun, the shoe is on the other foot, and I find myself staring at the side of the table previously pointed towards my enemies. God I miss sowing

In a culture with an impoverished understanding of spirituality, sicknesses of the spirit will always be diagnosed as something with a scientific name instead

Our collective challenge, I think, is to start telling better stories about everything. Men and women. Meaning and purpose. Food and health, work and wealth. The thread of disenchantment running through the default culture can be dissolved by truth and beauty. It begins with us.
