I’m not here to justify any bank’s processes (this easily ranks as one of the most painful!). But, a related PSA: Processing times for residency status renewals (extension of period of stay) can be LONG these days. Like, months. Get your paperwork in as early as possible.
Tired of JP Bank: they block access to your account when their residence card data is out of date. Website for update requires 6 pages of data, including things like your employer's address and phone number. Apparently, the form takes 1~2 weeks to process.

As if it wasn’t fun enough trying to find a post office in Japan that’s open on the weekends or after 5pm on a weekday, some of them are going to start closing for lunch.

Daiso bath stuff. I should’ve known! I’ve never been to Kusatsu. I didn’t know how… potent… or divisive… the sulphur in the water is. Found out when I tried this ‘famous onsen water bath powder’ series recently. Stank like an open drain. Bath time abandoned immediately. 😭

It’s been a long time, and slow going. But I did it. I bloody did it! 💜 In reality, nothing’s changed. 😅 I still get too tired to think straight sometimes, I make typos, I forget keigo. N1 isn’t where you stop. It’s where you finally breathe out for a second.

Passing N1 has taken me about 20 years. Maybe more… I’ve never taken Japanese language classes or had private tuition. I got here with textbooks, apps, subtitled TV shows, video games, and fansites that were dedicated enough to translate idol song lyrics.
