For many Facebook users in Africa, once the platform is "down", the assumption is that the entire internet is down. Majority of folks think Facebook is the internet. That's the problem when Facebook tries to "connect" the unconnected in developing countries.

In a healthcare report aimed to address a nurse and doctor shortage, Deloitte cited several fake studies with real researchers’ names attached.

@kofiemeritus Confidence and arrogance are not the same thing. So you can be humble and confident. Just keep in mind you don’t know much and you’re good to go

Syndicates [from European countries] export and profit from disinformation on key social policies in Africa. Eg. A right-wing political org based in Spain exported disinformation to Kenya to steer Twitter conversations in favour of the 2020 Reproductive Healthcare Bill.
The average monthly salary in Nigeria, Kenya, and Bangladesh is roughly $470, $393, and $220. Because Twitter no longer meaningfully penalizes accounts that spread lies, incite conflict, or promote hate, and has now monetized engagement, it's created a system where these bad

Between 1994 and 1999, only 1% of all private capital flows coming through the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (US$1.5 billion) went to Northern Ghana, whereas the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area alone attracted 79%. (Songsore, 2011a, 2006).
When the colonial state needed to expand its extractive capitalist economy in Ghana [then Gold Cost], it created policies that undermined the developmental interests of the North.

Nice thread backed with historic data. Even without this good info, people need to know that the Northern part of Ghana is not a federal state, and the relative rapid development of the capital, the middle belt and Takoradi are not due to ethnicity, but some very obvious factors
.@readJerome, I think some young Ghanaians assume that national resources are shared equitably across the region. So, the Northern belt is to blame for their own socio-economic woes, without regard for colonial and historical social policy factors. [Thread]

You are not doing them any favour if for nothing at all you are profiting off the lived experiences of people in those regions. All they said is represent them the right way how hard is it to get this simple fact.
@kwakueffa i have not seen recurring videos of any one of them promoting the 5 regions, but when someone decides, they want to control you on what you should post. if you want to promote, you’re a microphone and camera away to tell a story.

The policies included forced labour migration, obstructing educational advancement, neglecting the development of infrastructure and that of agricultural resources of the area [Bening 1975].

@Hajjyass70 You've exposed yourself kwasia man. You region is the least developed, full of illiteracy, unemployment, etc. Now you want to distance yourself from Bawku, aboafunu. When you go about burning everything in Tamale and Yendi, you thought people weren't watching. Eva heard Kayayoo?

Knowing your country's [Ghana] history is very important. It tells you a clear story of why there is a huge socio-economic regional divide between the North and South, fuelled heavily by the British colonizers. When you know this, you avoid making ignorant statements like this 👇🏿
we tell stories as it is, you can watch our videos on youtube, we tell stories as it is. since we got here we have collaborated with locals to tell the story, you’re still offended over our thumbnail. some of you speak like the region is for you personally. you don’t expect us

This right here illustrates a point I make in my book about the collapsing of the diversity of Northern ethnicities into a monolith. This erasure of individual Northern languages and cultures while essentializing the North. It's like when colonizers treat Africa as a monolith.

📣My analytical op-ed in @ForeignPolicy on AI-powered information warfare. Is the window for combating AI-driven propaganda is closing? Local, open-weight models let State, non-state and micro-operators run industrial-scale influence ops with no central points.
📣AI propaganda factories🏭 are now operational. My study shows how small, open-weight models can run as fully automatic generators in influence campaigns. mechanising personas, engagement, cadence. Possible for State, non-state, and micro-actors, including and bedroom ones.
