Honoured to be giving evidence on the UK's approach to countering terrorism overseas tomorrow. For those of you in London, come along! Otherwise do follow the @Remote_Warfare team's furious live-tweeting, or tune in here:
Next week we will examine ways in which the UK counters global Islamist terrorism at home and abroad in our first evidence session for this inquiry on Tuesday 15 January at 11.15am.

Last one off the top of my head is the @WomenforWomen "Beyond Consultations" tool which is all about promoting meaningful engagement of women in fragile and conflict-affected states in research, programming, and all levels of decision-making:

Also a huge shout-out to @GroundTruthSol and @UNmigration for a gem on interviewing bias - lots of takeaways in there about how the ethnicity of interviewers matters, and why it's best to ask locals to formulate the questions (rather than translating!):

A few people yesterday were asking about non-traditional methodologies for examining security interventions. I'm not an academic so this is dangerous territory, but I thought I'd share a few things that I've found helpful- please send me more reading that you would recommend too!

Thanks to @CivCenter for hosting such a great discussion on implementing IHL and protecting civilians during the pandemic. If anyone in my Twittersphere has best practices they want to share from their own work please get in touch - I'm collecting them for a report out soon-ish!
Civ-Mil Advisor @knowles_em: "A wide range of local security forces, militaries, NGOs & communities were involved in the COVID response. Ensuring that all frontline responders receive the training, information & support they need to protect civilians is vital during any crisis."

8/8 In the meantime, I hope that the presidentās announcement that he will appear before parliament on Saturday to discuss the electoral process brings some calm, and that peaceful negotiations prevail:

6/8 But I canāt help but wonder when addressing security sector fragmentation will feature more heavily (if not centrally!) in the design process for security force assistance/defence capacity building/train-advise-assist in fragile contexts, because it really really should.

5/8 And obviously, international efforts at security force assistance are a small piece of a much bigger puzzle here and itās faaaar from a simple cause and effect (very much recommend this @CrisisGroup piece that set me thinking: https://t.co/KerE6kcrLJ)

1/8 As different parts of the Somali National Army clashed in #Mogadishu over contested elections, I returned to my notes from interviews with international military trainers from 2016-2020 and... it's sort of there from the beginning. A few (paraphrased!) thoughts:
