What is the fruit of celibacy? "The unmarried man is anxious about the affairs of the Lord, how to please the Lord. But the married man is anxious about worldly affairs, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided" (1 Cor 7:32-34).

Practically speaking, I understand: For us priests and ministers, it means a kind of alienation from our family and friends, 99% of whom have weekends off. But again, this is where we work to catechize our families (for those married ministers) or else enjoy the fruit of celibacy.

Why do priests and ministers "work" on Sunday? Because the worship and contemplation is not work in the same way that the Sabbath rests from. It is a participation in the sanctifying work of God. It is rest in the heavenly sense.

2819 Family, this SUNDAY, JULY 6 we will observe an ALL CHURCH SABBATH. This intentional pause is a time to rest, reflect, and honor the faithful labor of our servant leaders. There will be no in-person gatherings, but we encourage you to be still, seek the Lord, and enjoy His

Of all my recent tweets to have popped off, I didn't expect this one to do anything at all. And yet. Happy 4th of July to all my American homies 🇺🇸.

Not-so-fun fact: One of the monasteries that Henry seized and dissolved had developed a prototype blast furnace. Had the English Reformation not happened, the Steel Age, and thus the Industrial Revolution, may have begun 200-300 years earlier.

One of two things:.1) Praying the Liturgy of the Hours (or some other way of internalizing the full liturgical calendar). 2) Actually resting, praying, and spending time with family on Sundays.

The TLM calendar is sort of easier since it envisions the possibility of 1st class feria—abstinence and fasting laws still retain despite the liturgical elevation. The NO calendar however says, "1st class=1st class! Yay!" And, tbf, the laity like this.

Sed contra, we live in a Novus Ordo paradise, where there's no further subdivisions of Solemnities and Feasts of the 1st and 2nd class.

I think it's so weird that the major focus of a Solemnity falling on a Friday is always that it's a "Meat Friday". I find it equally strange that those who follow the old calendar all year get excited about "Meat Fridays".

I've also seen some tweets asking about Unitarians, eg., JWs. I think Unitarians are closer in their philosophy of God to Muslims—esp since JWs and Muslims both uphold the traditional divine attributes—than they are to Mormons.

Mormons, otoh, completely reject the Unity of God, proposing instead Tritheism.

To add to this: I can say Muslims worship the same God while also affirming Mormons worship a different God. Muslims at least believe in *One* true God, regardless of whether they believe this Single Substance is hypostatically united to the humanity of Christ.

I think the "do they worship the same God" question actually reveals two different epistemological presuppositions -- whether you have a "Kantian" (for lack of a better term) or realist epistemology.

I'm lucky to live in a state that enables a freedom of choice in schools, but the local Catholic schools are still considered rich kid schools, again, despite being vastly cheaper to other private schools.

The sad problem of financing Catholic schools now is twofold: The schools don't have enough money to pay their teachers a competitive wage relative to other private schools and are too expensive for the average Catholic family despite being cheaper than other private schools.

One thing that happened in the Catholic Church in the USA, that nobody talks about, was that the sudden collapse of the teaching orders of religious sisters shut down thousands of parochial schools, with the worst harm as always accruing to poor and working-class families. I.
