I know this is awful news but also am I right in thinking that sounds exactly like a heist that Carmen Sandiego would pull on the game show?.
Alaska’s Department of Fish and Game has canceled the winter snow crab season for the first time ever after an estimated 1 billion crabs mysteriously vanished from Alaskan waters in just two years. The cancellation could cost the economy $200 million.

Thanks for the replies everyone! It seems like the general consensus from folks here (and from my searching elsewhere) is that using "blind" to describe literal blockage or loss of vision is fine.
