Over 8 months the trail cam in my garden has captured a total of 24 instances where Leopard (5-6 Leopards) have moved through. I've had 5 other sightings that the cam failed to capture. That's amazing for a residential wildlife estate plot of land. #Leopard #trailcam #SouthAfrica

One of my favourite regular visitors to our garden - the beautiful Black-headed Oriole. This past summer I was also lucky enough to see a Eurasian Golden Oriole in the garden. It was only the second time, in the 9 years that I have lived in Hoedspruit, that I have seen one.

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to spend a few weeks in one of my favourite parts of Africa, the #Kgalagadi. One of the many, many highlights was this beautiful, sub-adult Black-backed Jackal.

Scarlet-chested Sunbirds have been frequenting the garden over the past month or two. They fly so incredibly fast, that I was grateful to find this one sitting still on a thin Knobthorn branch for a few seconds.

We had such an incredible day when a pair of Crowned Eagles repeatedly flew past our balcony, which overlooked their home forest. The beautiful late afternoon light was the cherry on top of the most unbelievable sightings of these awe-inspiring birds.

This male Bearded Woodpecker perched on the side of a Knobthorn, just as the light was hitting that spot through the tree cover. I think he deserves to be in the spotlight, don't you? 😉

We have been really lucky with how many times flocks of White-crested Helmetshrikes have moved through the garden, in the past few weeks. I often find myself with a smile on my face when I get to photograph them, & hope that this one has you smiling too.

It’s a very entertaining afternoon here in Hoedspruit, with a large troop of Banded Mongoose foraging and resting all around my garden.

It is always interesting watching lion cubs reveal their character when they join the pride on a kill. This cub was very spirited as he challenged some of the lionesses, in order to stake hold of his prime position at the kill's rear. #lioncubs #lion #SouthAfrica

I was standing high up on a plateau when this Elephant started swirling her one leg in the water, raised her head & flared her ears out at me. I spoke softly & calmly & she settled down & then started hosing herself down with muddy river water on a very hot Pafuri September day.

This Leopard, the Khokovela female, is rubbing her scent on this Magic Guarri bush, leaving an olfactory message for other Leopards. You'll notice how outstretched her neck is, they reach as high as possible, to have the best chance of amplifying the scent. @Singita_

I had been in a sighting of a female Leopard with a cub when the female moved off quickly. We left the cub & went to see if we could locate the female again. Instead, we found this male Leopard, who had just had a confrontation with her, he had several fresh wounds.

I have always had a soft spot for Grey Go-away-birds, but I’ve also developed a true appreciation for them as “look-outs” for certain animals. I’m learning to differentiate between their alarm calls, and knowing when to scan for a Snake & when to look up for a Raptor.

There is a Hyena whooping a few metres away from my house. I will never, ever take moments like this for granted. There was a big temptation to switch on my outside lights & grab a torch. But in truth, I get the same kick out of hearing it, as I would seeing it, so I let it be.
