Travelled by bus this morning to Simancas Castle, containing the General Archive and of where Red Hugh O'Donnell died. I viewed the original documents relating to the Spain-Ireland relationship including letters from O’Neill and O’Donnell to the King. @opwireland

My visit to Valladolid, Spain, on behalf of the Irish Government continued this evening where I laid a wreath in honour of Red Hugh O'Donnell. Since 2022, the city of Valladolid has annually reenacted his 1602 funeral procession in period costumes. @opwireland

While in Sligo, I met with the Strandhill Coastal Erosion committee at Strandhill to discuss the critical issue of Coastal Erosion. I also visited the impressive Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery, Ireland’s oldest megalithic tomb.
