The Matrix as history ? Not looking good for those interested in reality over technotopian hallucinations... #ClimateEmergency
Yet another reason AI is bad for the climate: it's syphoning off critical investments. AI startups have raised more than $21 B in the 3rd quarter, more than double climate tech companies, whose funding is on track to fall about 50% this year overall.

This one takes me back to med school and intern days. In 1992, as an intern at Royal Brisbane Hospital, I trained for the Kokoda Trail walk with the Royal Society of Queensland - up and down those Block E stairs. That walk was cancelled so I went to Borneo & [rice] food poisoned!

#OneHealth an idea for now [or never]...
Today is One Health Day. The health of humans, animals and ecosystems are closely interlinked. Changes in these relationships can increase the risk of new human and animal diseases developing and spreading. #OneHealth is an approach to optimize the health of humans, animals and

Res ipsa loquitur ++++ The NACC should be reconstituted entirely as it has rendered itself morally bankrupt !
16 months after the NACC started its work, the first public figure found to have engaged in misconduct under the #NACC legislation is the Comissioner of the NACC.

To paraphrase Steve Jobs, "what's wrong with the planet cannot be fixed by technology". Its starts and finishes with culture: Is it generative or extractive ? Does it heal country or destroy it ? Is it eco-centric or human-centric ?

The power of nature - fungi ! #biodiversity #OneHealth
From our archives: Toxicologist Danielle Stevenson is cleaning up brownfields using fungi. "In three months we saw a more than 50 percent reduction in all pollutants," she says of a site in L.A. "By 12 months, they were pretty much not detectable.โ https://t.co/CVGyL8LLBP

Looks fascinating and what a location for a medically themed 'natural history' seminar - Uppsala ! I recommend also visiting the magnificent greenhouse adjacent to the university psychology department - it brings the tropics to the temperate zone... #NaturalHistory #biodiversity
Come here me speak online for Uppsala University's Instructing Natural History seminar in December! #histsci #histmed #hps #sts #hstm

Alas, as predicted and foretold, again and again...we are practically at +1.5oC already with multiple ecological tipping points in view... Not to forget the doomsday clock is 30 seconds to midnight and we are one nuclear exchange away from mass human suicide via nuclear winter...

A vampire spider ! That is a new one ! NB But it is not how to we expect vampires to behave -> this one drains the blood suckers as a kind of vampire on vampires. Could be a new one for the genre ! #biodiversity
Not a parasite, but I wanted to shed light on Evarcha culicivora, a species of jumping spider that is the only spider to feed on vertebrate blood, and does so by feeding on mosquitoes and draining them not of their tissues but the blood theyโve picked up.
