Lots of players are returning to TFT with the new set launch so I wanted to revive this information:
There are no diminishing returns on Armor and Magic Resist. However, it's still preferable to give your units a mix of defensive stats.

Next patch, the Training Dummies in the "Wandering" portals will be replaced by more lively dummies - Sentinels! These Sentinels can walk around, attack, and slam enemies.
We're also enabling the Wandering Trainer augments on the portal, letting you mix & match even more traits

The augment replaces jade bracelets in the stories with the Jade trait's statues but embraces the same idea of sacrificing itself to protect others. It also grants power in an otherwise inaccessible axis (cheat death!)

In addition to balance changes for traits, Augments, and champs, 13.14 completely reworks Yuumi’s Zoom Zone and Petricite Forest, into more interactable Region Portals.

When you hover over resistances you'll see that the reduced damage doesn't go up much as you get more resistances.
For example, 100 Armor grants 50% reduced damage from physical damage. 200 Armor grants 67%. This looks like diminishing returns because it's only 17% more.

67% damage reduction turns that same 1000 damage attack into 333 damage, meaning it takes 3 hits to kill the unit instead of 1. The unit's survivability was increased from 2x to 3x with that +17% increase (it gained 2x to 3x EHP).
