VC was built to fund high-margin, scalable tech. Consumer? Too slow. Too physical. Not sexy. Then around 2012, Facebook/IG ads cracked open hyper-targeting. Pair that with Shopify, and suddenly consumer looked like tech.

From the trenches: Stay in one category. @NeuroGum didn’t always do this and we paid the price. 1 need state. 1 retail buyer. 1 unit economics model. 1 clear value prop. Multi-category only works if you merchandise together (a la our CVS brand block).
