Fascinating! Akhisar once had an important Greek presence until the population exchanges of early 20s. Onassis is supposed to have been born there. Yet, I had not heard of a Jewish community. The school is even more fascinating, definitely deserves a visit.
A dream came true today: for years I read and wrote about a Jewish farming school in Turkey which was founded in late 1880s in Akhisar. It’s name was Or Yehuda and was sister school of Mikveh Israel in Ottoman Palestine. The abandoned building still has its Hebrew/Ottoman plaque.

Another puzzlement I have is how come TR saw its highest ever per capita income @ almost $13K in 2012 when its degree of integration with the West was deepest & then as it drifted away it steadily came down to below $8K in 2020, a Western conspiracy but then which one?
