Did a rough 'survey ' with a bunch of business grads on sili bag use . Positive results. team did informal checks with cashier folks in 26 places. Each guy did most frequent place. Roughly over 50% reduction in use. Most places Kandy region. Plan to do a more organised one later.

This elephant drive WILL lead to untold destruction to elephants. At least they should 've filled up numerous stone quarries within the concentration area . There's extremely limited foliage covering this 12000 ha land. An elephant needs at least 200kg.

Notice the damage done over 20 years. Current state of MER is in no state to house 500 elephants. Any attempt to herd elephants into this heavily bastardized land is an environmental crime.

Srilanka imports at least 400000 tons of virgin plastic per year( stuff we use to make bags n bottles)Cost could be over $200million. Lets take few bags when shopping. Middle class means some degree of CLASS in at least some of the actions.

Take 2 years to hold the Drive of elephants. Fill all stone quarries. Fencing the area right now will only lead to serious damage to elephants. Every adjoining Reserve is in a state incapable of providing home to such a large herd. Resulting imbalance will create a domino effect.

Original plan was a viable one since it linked Different sanctuaries together like Bundala, Udawalawe, Lunugamwehera. But the massive land use since then damaged the forest cover within. Relocate all things except airport elsewhere. Regenerate greenery first. Or else its danger.

Hambantota Elephant Management Reserve [MER] was well over 25000 ha when it was originally proposed in 2008. What's left of itis hardly 12000ha. Much land has been sold, leased, illegally encroached with even plenty abandoned stone quarries.Will not house 500 elephants. Bad plan.

If the way women dress is a barometer for criminality, Srilanka must be the safest. Yet we have over 2500 cases of sex crimes against children only in 23/24. Imagine the real number..Only 10% of sex crimes are reported in the world. In Srilanka this rate must be even less.
