Yesterday I met someone at a tech conference. They introduced themself and when I asked what they did, she replied: "I'm not technical".

Nothing wrong with that, but I didn't buy it.

I invited her to pull up a chair and join the larger group. Her immediate response was: "Oh no, I'm not worthy to sit at the same table".

@kelseyhightower That makes me so sad. We need to understand that there are many parts of a business, it’s not just dev work. Respect all those around you.

@kelseyhightower not a fan of this culture at all. when I visit cos and talk to a recruiter, they always apologize and say "sorry i'm not an eng!"

@kelseyhightower most of the time, the engineering work is drivel that everyone does, and is nothing special. there are more aspects to a biz than eng!

@kelseyhightower So good! The simple act of drawing people into circles of conversation makes such a difference to all involved in any gathering.

@kelseyhightower Not my exp. I put tech as career goal and feel against the current, Everyone wanna be the CEO. biz/sell ppl see devs as simple dirty workers

@kelseyhightower OK, and now the important part. What was she using for writing? DocBook? (which version), DITA? Asciidoc[tor]? Framemaker? Arbortext?

@jaydestro @ashleymcnamara @kelseyhightower Amen. Another great example is the folks who do the insanely hard support work to make lemonade when our code is a lemon.

@kelseyhightower I hear this CONSTANTLY from people that most definitely are technical/have tech roles but are biased to think tech=dev. Thanks for sharing!

@kelseyhightower That's sad. Users are community too in my book. Contributions can have many different forms and criticism can be as important as code
