Just for any new followers who might not realise... All the 'Liverpool:Then and Now' ones I've done so far (around 11,000 of them in all) can be seen on my Facebook page, where they're also sorted into albums by area. Please feel free to have a look there!
Stuart Road, Walton, 1934 and 2021
I was made up to do this one. This chippy opened in 1932 and the chap in the doorway is the current owner's great-grandfather. If you zoom in you can just see hiim behind the counter!
I’m really excited to announce that I’ve been commissioned by
@MuseumLiverpool
to photograph present day scenes of the Blitz damaged sites featured in their current exhibition, Blitzed: Liverpool Lives. This image is one of several which features on a free trail... 1/3
Sir Paul McCartney, Forthlin Road, early 1960s and 2018
I'd never normally use a Now pic I hadn't taken in person, but chance of seeing the man himself coming out of his chidhood home are zero so I photo'd the TV during Late Late Show. Still coolest guy ever and looking great
Bob Dylan in Dublin Street, Liverpool, 1966, and 2021
Original photograph was taken by Bob Dylan's photographer Barry Feinstein. Dylan was due to play the Liverpool Empire that night - 14th May 1966 - and went for a mooch near the Dock Road in the afternoon
Bellefield Avenue, West Derby, 1970s and 2023
The great Bill Shankly, chatting with children outside his home throughout his time in Liverpool from 1959 until his pasing in 1981.
My dad always used to remind me to 'look up above street level' around the city centre because there are great features that can be missed. All these years later I still enjoy spotting bits I've never noticed before, like this fella watching over Great Crosshall Street

Royal Liver Building, 1911 and 2024
I think the original might have been taken of Alfred Gittins, a clerk of works, standing on the top of the Liver Building dome shortly before the Liver Bird was installed and the photo was shared by his Great Great Nephew Barry Gittins
St James' Mount, 1832 and 2023
Gambier Terrace construction started in 1832 but only completed in 1837 apparently. This area was a quarry, and then a cemetery before the Anglican was started in 1904
The Kop from Walton Breck Road, approx 1993 and 2021
I think the three stripes on shoulder were from 1991. I can't see if it's a Carlsberg or Candy sponsored shirt but it looks like it's got a Premier League badge so between Aug 1992 and May 1994 (before old kop came down)
High Street, Wavertree, 1970s and 2023
Ever since I've been gathering old photos to redo, I've seen loads I thought would be great to do but were taken from heights I can't get to. Just recently I've got a little ultralight drone so there are loads I might be able to do now!
Derby Square, 1941 and 2023
Showing heavily damaged areas of Lord Street and South Castle Street during the blitz, looking towards the partially built Anglican Cathedral in the background
