I haven’t tried the da Vinci 5 so this obviously applies to Xi/X users. @NHSGrampian .@ERUSrobotics.

Honestly, it will make no difference at all; it is totally fine from an ergonomics perspective, you won’t notice any changes while operating and I am sure you will not miss it.

So, if you are a user of the da Vinci system and you finish the case with a red dot on your forehead or even worse, you wake up with headaches / neck discomfort the following day, this post is for you: try removing the pillow. Just pull it out, you won’t break anything, trust me.

I have been doing this for a few months and what a difference this has made! Three robotic cystectomies back-to-back this week and no neck pain or headaches the following day.

I saw a tweet from the @SocSurgErgo a while ago that recommended removing the da Vinci’s headrest. Apparently, surgeons who use the @IntuitiveSurg robot tend to rest their head on it -intentionally or unintentionally- and this puts strain on their cervical spine.
