Good to be on @BBCBreakfast talking about our research on overcrowding in England and the devastating impact this is having on children. We need an urgent, long term, national plan aimed at drastically increasing the number of affordable and social homes across England.

It’s going to be cold tonight and this poses serious dangers to people sleeping rough on our streets. If you see someone sleeping rough, use StreetLink to send an alert to support services: https://t.co/chBrkTV7EC

When a supported housing scheme closes, those who rely on its vital services suffer most. But, other public services are forced to make crisis interventions at higher costs – impacting us all. The government must commit to a long-term funding settlement for supported housing.
Supported housing is vital for thousands of people. Closures could leave as many as 70,000 people at risk of homelessness @natfednews have warned…

We strongly welcome government plans to help children out of temporary accommodation. No child should grow up in this environment yet, in June 2025, 172,420 children were. To end this crisis for good we will work with the government to deliver the social homes urgently needed.
'The big change we want to make is put a proper roof over our children's heads' Local Government minister Alison McGovern told #BBCBreakfast the government has pledged to stop children growing up in B&Bs and to make childcare more accessible for families on Universal Credit as

Social housing is a pillar of the government’s housebuilding ambitions A positive outcome on the consultation on rent convergence would further strengthen social housing providers’ ability to build more social homes, helping unblock stalled sites @natfednews @mhclg @mtpennycook
My government is delivering the biggest boost to social housing in a generation. We’re backing the mayors and councils who know their communities best, to build homes for families who need them the most.

It is excellent to see this robust set of recommendations on reforming land value capture. We welcome today's report, which puts strong emphasis on delivering affordable housing as part of thriving, mixed communities and sets out the importance of Section 106 for delivery.
We have published a report on the Government's target of delivering 1.5 million homes and reform of Land Value Capture ⬇️ Read the full report and our recommendations to the Government: https://t.co/d3fE3feq7Q

Awaab's Law comes into force today. The quality and safety of resident homes is our top priority. These reforms, alongside the government's commitment to a decade of renewal for social and affordable housing, are crucial to addressing the housing crisis. @KateNHF responds👇

Whilst we recognise the unique challenges to development in London, it is essential we do not water down our #AffordableHousing ambitions. We'll continue working with our members, @LDN_gov and Gov't to overcome these challenges whilst protecting delivery of affordable homes.

Good explainer of #NewTowns by @darrenpjones Great to see Darren highlight the government’s affordable and social housing ambitions for new towns as part of creating thriving, successful new communities.
We are building the next generation of new towns to make the dream of home ownership a reality again. This is not just about building new homes — but brand new communities with proper services. What does that mean? Let me explain 👇🏻

I’m so shocked and heartbroken by the horrific attack at Heaton Park Synagogue. My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all members of the Jewish community.
Manchester extends its deepest sympathy following the horrific incident at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on Yom Kippur. This act of violence has deeply shaken our city. Today, we come together to honour those affected and stand united with our Jewish community.

Helpful thread from @mtpennycook about s106 issues👇 Housing associations are committed to delivering new social homes for families across the country & a functioning s106 system is vital to delivering these homes We are working with govt & developers to address these issues
This government inherited serious challenges in respect of Section 106 housing delivery and we continue to wrestle with them. A short 🧵
