Just putting this out there: if anyone needs an experienced post-doc, I'm here! I research performance practice, history (mainly pop ents), audience experience, embodiment, risk, celebrity, gender, physical culture, archives & managed/delivered varied impact on my last project.

If any of the audio sounds like Jim, but not not quite Jim, then you're right. I loved Jim but his speech pattern was challenging to someone learning to edit. He didn't always finish the last sentence before launching into the next... I've watched these many many times...

Fancy hearing about postcards & what they can tell you about theatre culture. Let Jim tell you about Dan Leno & Vesta Tilley.

Here's Jim reminiscing about representations of 19th century theatre from his youth. For me, it's particularly sweet because he's talking about Bristol theatre (my adopted home)

🧵I feel weird posting here (Musk). But, I can't not express something about Jim Davis. I don't have words right now, but I thought I'd share 2 videos I produced of Jim as part of @theatviscult. I can't make myself watch them yet, but I hope some of you who knew him enjoy them.

It is with a very heavy heart that we share the news that Professor Jim Davis passed away on Saturday 4th November. Everyone who had the pleasure of encountering Jim will appreciate that this is a huge loss for his family, friends, colleagues, and the wider research community.

This was such a lovely conference. It was great to meet some of my TwiX friends & talk spech acts & popular entertainment with passionate & knowledgeable folk!
Day 2 of our conference got off to a dynamic start with @katejholmes on Leotard; @MarvellousCrag1 on flying children & competitive adults; Chris Beddoe finishing the session with child performers, legislation & social reform(ers)

Hurray! This has made it from the purely digital world into the latest physical issue of @JofVictCulture! I love that it is alongside an article on Eugene Sandow & the embodied qualities of love letters...
Interested in aerial history & the iconic flying Frenchman Jules Léotard? What celebrity bodies reveal about wider culture? Perhaps risk, sensation, #audiences or cultural value is your thing? Check out my latest journal article... https://t.co/NQGikiy0Pk

This article in Rolling Stone is a hell of a read. “I saw who was building the AI systems and their points of view. I saw what they were being used for, and I was like, ‘Oh, my God, we have a problem.’ ” — Timnit Gebru https://t.co/CPJK28juPo

I can't agree more. It is despicable that first past the post leads to parties with such a small proportion of the vote getting all the power. I really hope tactical voting can get us closer to changing the system to, the much fairer, proportional representation.
TACTICAL VOTING ...a piece for @LibDems conference last night. In 2019 using first past the post, 22 million votes were put in the bin (those whose vote went to a candidate who didn't win that seat). I want some form of PR for future generations I don't belong to any party,

Steve Coogan's piece last night for @LibDems conference saying he would normally vote Labour but will be campaigning with the @LibDems candidate in Lewes to help topple Tory @mariacaulfield I sincerely hope they succeed. Tactical voting at the next GE 👍🏼

Opening this October: our new exhibition, #GeorgianIlluminations! 🎆🎉 These complex light displays, using glass lamps, fireworks, transparencies and temporary architecture – such as this amazing 1814 ‘temple’ in Green Park – were an important form of popular entertainment… 🧵

...surely someone fancies and invite code...? I'd love to see more theatre & circus people over there...
Are you feeling weird about posting on a place that is increasingly hostile? Let me know if (kind) people fancy an invite code to the 🟦 heavens place. I have a couple going... It's not a quick fix, so is quieter, but that is because community takes time to build...

The 19th Century Chromatic Turn is also the subject of the @ercchromotope project. The article, "Giving a New Status to a Dyes Collection: A Contribution to the Chromotope Project" by @CarrAnneLaure1 & Irene Bilbao Zubiri describes progress on the project. https://t.co/uBP9odOpap

Being able to say "call me anything you want, ignore my title" suggests that the title does not affect how you are perceived and treated, this is a privilege not everyone has.
