stages of friendship closeness: 1. you run into each other at parties/events 2. you plan "formal" hangouts ahead of time (schedule coffee, group dinner, etc) 3. more "informal" hangouts on short notice (come over to just chill, etc.) 4. you feel comfortable showing up unannounced

there's a similar gradient with calls / texting: scheduling catch-up calls in advance -> calling each other spontaneously texting more formally, e.g. "hey what's up! wanted to ask about ..." -> versus random "look at this meme lmao"

@kasratweets I don't think I've ever reached 4 with anyone 😆 I'm mostly 2 since my friends are busy too so we gotta schedule. 3 was relationship-level for me, but would be the dream if I can live near my friends

@lishiyori yea I think I've had 4 with like, one friend ever lmao but 3 feels quite achievable if the commute is <30mins

@kasratweets Hmm. 4 would be annoying from a friend, no matter how close--I like to know in advance what I'm doing with my time.

@kasratweets It’s funny because I had a friendship grow and detiorate through exactly these stages these past few years as I grew and they did not.

@kasratweets idk showing up unannounced seems like something other than closeness (something i wouldn't like)

@kasratweets I have a few friends that I’m 4 with but 4 and somewhat 3 have been eliminated as possibilities because of their wives :/

@kasratweets Hmm, I'm #3 close with a large amount of people but #4 doesn't seem logistically possible in my culture. I'm just not home often enough for showing up unannounced to be anything but a risk you'll miss me

@kasratweets I’m my 20s everyone was level 4. People just “dropped by” to hang out. Now unfortunately, nobody has the time. Too busy ( jobs)

@kasratweets I think a lot of these apply digitally as well. While I wouldn't usually want someone to randomly show up at my place, I love when people call me out of the blue.
