Interesting topic of discussion today in #DiverseVoices: Negotiating salaries and understanding how this aspect of one’s career impacts genders differently. 🧐 Great tips navigating that @tmccorkindale!

Celebrate Difference. “To communicate effectively, companies need diverse perspectives and to seek out the best mix of humans.” It’s important to have multiple POVs in the room in order to tell a story well!

Understand Your Unconscious Bias. “The path to changing behaviors starts with self awareness.” It’s important to have these conversations, even if they can be uncomfortable sometimes, because the end goal should be to overcome issues that have arised.

It’s great to see that the PR and Communications field does so much to ensure that D&I is engrained in every company, but as mentioned in an article, there is a gap between the talk and action that must be closed in order for D&I to be effective and actually work!

@sysbat finishes with explaining the importance of D&I in the workplace. These initiatives push companies to think more innovatively, which can be done when more voices of different background can be heard. This is when better results are produced! 🙌🏽🗣

An important question to ask yourself is this: Does my personal brand align with my behavior? #beintentional

@sysbat challenges us reflect on how we treat others. Our brand enters the room before we do. It’s through that lens that people hear our ideas and view our behavior

Experts like @sysbat teach me the importance of connecting with everyone in the room at all levels! “How you interface with people will determine the extent of your opportunities.” Love that! 🤩 #DiverseVoices @UFPRDepartment

If a corporation truly values diversity, they will carry out its importance to the very end and not be satisfied by simply having more diverse hires.

This goes back to our first class where I mentioned the importance of intentionality. A corporation cannot be considered diverse just by having hires from different demographics. How is the program set up? Are all these minorities begin assimilated well?

It’s not just about hiring a more diverse staff! Senior Vice President of D&I at @WeberShandwick Judith Harrison says retaining and developing diverse staff is one of most important and urgent issues facing the industry! #DiverseVoices
