In this new preprint we ask: What drives #anhedonia? Problems with experiencing pleasure, reward valuation, or reward learning? @jonroiser, @vincentvalton and I reviewed the evidence from mostly cross-sectional studies in depression and schizophrenia 🧵1/.

I strongly recommend to watch the Battle for Kyiv. I wish there was a recording of the Q&A because @OzKaterji said so much of importance and absolutely deserved the constant long bouts of applause — yet, he humbly channelled all this energy into support for Ukraine. Well done!.

Oz’s work (and his excellent film is a prime example of this) shows how to do journalism with deep care, admirable courage, strong commitment to truth and genuine sense of humanity. I also really loved the Ukrainian music composed for the film. /6.

Unlike many others, Oz is not trying to tell Ukraine’s story for the Ukrainians, he constantly reminds his audience that Ukrainians are more than capable to tell their own story. Instead, Oz adds to it and works in synergy with Ukrainian voices. /5.

Which is why it’s so refreshing and important to have Western journalists like Oz who is aware of all this, frequently calls out the bad actors, elevates Ukrainian voices, deeply cares about Ukrainian people, and isn’t afraid to name evil when it’s in front of his camera. /4.

…along ethnic lines. This ultimately cost and is still costing lives but people seldom claimed responsibility, apologised or even acknowledged their role. Some in the West still idiotically pretend balance by giving equal or greater space to the occupiers than to the occupied./3.

There is a deep & shameful history of Western journalism when it comes to Ukraine, from Pulitzer-winning Walter Duranty who covered up Stalin’s orchestrated famine in 1930s, to articles of 2014-22 portraying Ukrainians as nazis and Russian occupation of Donbas as civil war… /2.

I was deeply impressed with @OzKaterji‘s film debut, documenting the Battle for Kyiv with great sensitivity and humanity. He managed to capture not just the depravity of Russian occupiers but most importantly the humanity and resilience of Ukrainian people and civil society /1.

A dear filmmaker friend of mine recently congratulated me & said "you have achieved what 95% of filmmakers never achieve - you have actually made a film.". My directorial debut The Battle for Kyiv premieres in London in less than 48 hours, and I can't wait to share it with you.
