Hello everyone, My name is Kahllid Al-Alim, and I am excited to run for LAUSD School Board in Board District 1. I was born and raised in South LA and attended LAUSD schools. I have been a parent in Board District 1 for 20 years. My kids have attended Crenshaw and Dorsey.
My name is Kahllid Al-Alim, and I am
running to be your LAUSD Board Member in District 1. I was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, and I attended LAUSD schools. I have two children who graduated from LAUSD and two who currently attend school in LAUSD. 🧵
I am thrilled to announce that I have been endorsed by UTLA! The union represents 35,000 teachers, librarians, nurses, counselors and HHS providers in LAUSD. It is humbling to see so many Community leaders–and now UTLA–believing in my candidacy.
I'm beyond honored to share the first of many endorsements I've received from esteemed local leaders!
Dr. Melina Abdullah is someone I greatly admire and someone who is always fighting for the greater good. Thank you for your support, Melina! It means so much to me and my team!
I enjoyed attending the BSAP Winter Wonderland family day on Saturday. I got to connect with the community and share how our campaign wants to ensure that the Black Student Achievement Plan stays strong and fully funded.
This past Saturday, I enjoyed hanging out at Taste of Soul LA! I connected with community members, union workers, and the BLM LA booth, spreading our message of protecting our community’s public schools and making sure the district’s resources are spent on our students.
We must interrupt the School to Prison Pipeline in our schools. We must make sure kids get the support they need and we must hold LAUSD accountable to our community. I believe all of this will help us to create the young leaders of the future.
I have been doing this work for 20 years and I am confident that I have the skills, leadership, experience, and motivation to serve as your School Board Member. I think it’s time to put a Black dad on the School Board!
Peace,
Kahllid

I have been on the front lines of fights to stop the closing of Black Schools AND fought for Community Schools and the creation of the Black Student Achievement Plan. As a father of five and now a grandfather of two, I am concerned about the state of public education

As your Board Member in District 1, I will prioritize fully staffed schools and students' mental health.
We need full-time counselors, nurses, librarians, psychiatric social workers, campus aides, college counselors, attendance counselors, and elective teachers.
The criminalization of our kids is something that creates generational trauma and it further erodes the community's trust in those who are supposed to protect us. Random searches and harassment at the hands of school police does nothing more than fill our kids with fear
I believe in strong neighborhood public schools. Families deserve excellent public schools in our neighborhoods. I will fight to ensure our schools have everything they need so we no longer feel pressure to bus our kids hours away to find a great school.
and it helps to increase the school to prison pipeline. Preventing future generations of kids from being criminalized the moment they enter school is why I fight, it's why I've been in the movement for so long, and it's why I'm running for School Board.
