Another exciting new direction in the Venton lab is modulating neurotransmission with Focused ultrasound (FUS). Led by Greatness Olaitan, and in collaboration with Wendy Lynch, we can now use noninvasive FUS to modulate a dopaminergic circuit.

We have several other multiplexing projects just out or coming out. For a long time we've viewed the brain one neurotransmitter at a time, but using multiple techniques is allowing us to look at multiple neurotransmitters in real time simultaneously!.

The Venton lab is getting into multiplexing. In this exciting new paper led by Kailash Shrestha and Yuanyu Chang, we multiplex FSCV detection of adenosine and dopamine with fluorescent iGluSnFR to understand adenosine neuromodulation.

We were doing lab clean-up today and I google how to dispose of glycerol and one of the first things the google AI lists is feed to cattle. Seemed a bit impractical. Google AI might have a little bit of way to go in lab safety.

Someone already said in their early talk today what we don’t need is more sensors for dopamine and of course that’s the topic of my talk tomorrow. But hopefully my 3D printed devices are flexible for many applications as well.

As department chair, you are often overwhelmed with fixing problems, so I always appreciate it when colleagues share good news of grants or awards or other accomplishments. Love to celebrate other's success!.

Particularly enjoyed talks on flexible carbon probes for FSCV by Hui Fang of Dartmouth and Jinxing Li of Michigan State. FSCV is not dead yet and new electrode designs are alive and well.

Honored to act as the official opponent for Samuel Rantataro at Aalto University in Finland today! My first time doing a formal defense like this (Samuel and Tomi Laurila his advisor are in tails!) and enjoying Finland.
