Uganda’s Constitution- Articles 29, 38 & 50 guarantees freedoms of speech, assembly and association. But in practice, Human Rights Defenders navigate a minefield of restrictive laws, surveillance & intimidation. Acts like the 𝐍𝐆𝐎 𝐀𝐜𝐭 and 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐞

“Human Rights Defenders act to promote & protect human rights. They speak for the voiceless, support the vulnerable & remind those in power that rights are not favors” - Kirenga said. He further added that “Civil society is not just a partner for government—it’s a watchdog”.
