I would say the experiment is a failure (so far) - it needs more water to capture the same initial surge. The domain is too small. Also, a ton of water is lost in the initial surge from areas where the fluid can "escape" the domain.

I'm rendering 100 frames of this little experiment (I already did a few fix-tweaks on stream) that I eventually let run to 100 frames after I ended the stream. Entire process is in the stream recordings

The first version of the sim was released October 16, 2025 - about 6 weeks ago. It has come a long ways but the fundamentals have remained the same. I hope you have all learned something throughout the process - I definitely did.
The preliminary run of an ECDO global fluid simulation has been completed. It is based on a Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area 2D projection, which preserves the surface area of the Earth, but redistributes (warps) it. Download/view at https://t.co/lSAwvjWWnu (X can't handle 2 fps)

I'm open sourcing the sim now - I've already published two github repositories containing sim files. Anyone who wants to try their own versions of the sim can now do so. It would bring me great pleasure.
I'm releasing a second repository, "hpc-sim", that I used for transferring artifacts (mostly renders) between my personal computer and the remote high-compute machine I was using. The background images and some old renders are also inside. Enjoy @ https://t.co/BvjLdDIePg

🥳 v10 of ECDOsim is here, with many improvements. The physics forces have been improved, and out of many candidates, new vortex centroids were chosen at (-20,130) (20,-50). Fluid resolution was improved 1.3x from v9, with 19 mm particles total - 68 km^3 of water per particle.

Thinking about doing a 12 hour livestream this weekend for the production movie and v11 main scenario release. Who will show up? The hours will probably be from about midnight to noon US West Coast time. I'll try some final sim stuff and answer questions. And take breaks ofc
