9/Fexsibel was one of millions of women who can no longer afford birth control amid Venezuela's crisis. When she got pregnant, she already had 3 kids she could barely sustain. So she went alone to a makeshift abortion clinic. The provider used a hook. She died on Feb. 2.

3/In Venezuela, birth control was once free at many government clinics and broadly affordable at private pharmacies. But as the Venezuelan government lost purchase power, contraception largely disappeared. It has come back in some places, but at inaccessible prices.

Many of the migrants arriving in the Colombian town of Necoclí, near of the edge of the Darién, come with almost nothing, and hope to work their way along the route to the US. Many are children from Venezuela, who have known nothing but economic crisis. An aid group offers meals.

I will remember this bridge for a long time. Families cross it to go to school, to buy groceries. It is so riddled with holes that pedestrians sometimes fall into the water below. The question: Would a Navajo-controlled govt change something like this?
