Wins his second Masters in dominating fashion and still doesn’t make it about himself. Waits for his caddie and lets him lead the way. A moment I’m sure he’ll never forget.
WE > ME
One of the best role models in sports.
As the college season has began I have been able to talk to some coaches about what they see going on with their hitters. Here are 5 takeaways I believe hitters may find useful:
Thread 🧵
“Slow is fast” 🗯️
AL Player of the Month Gunnar Henderson talking about how slowing down his load helped him level up at the plate 📈
The best hitters make it look easy. They are under control from the start

If I am a young infielder I am not missing a Puerto Rico game this WBC. Watch how efficient they are with their movements. They play downhill, always on the attack. High energy, quick to congratulate each other, fun to watch. An absolute electric factory if you ask me.
I’ve always done this since I was a little kid. Guys used to joke around about how loud I would breathe out when I hit the ball. Interesting to hear A Rod talk about this. 40% power increase sounds kinda crazy though lol
CJ Abrams cage drills and feels that have helped him up his game in 2024
He is on pace to increase his offensive production by a large margin
His 🔑’s
Staying in his backside longer
Keeping his direction through the ball
Noticeable differences between 2023 & 2024
Mookie Betts NL Player of the Month
Deliberate training that goes from:
Cage ➡️ On Deck ➡️ Game
You can see the moves he’s focusing on in the cage translate to the game

LSU Softball is 🔥 right now at 22-0
Ali has one of the best swings I’ve seen in softball.
Up early giving herself plenty of time to get her swing off to go along with a great bat path that is adjustable to all fields.
Francisco Lindor has been my favorite infielder to watch since he came up with Cleveland. Here is a breakdown of why I think he is consistently one of the best infielders to watch in the MLB using Perry Hill’s 6 F’s of Fielding in my own words.
A 🧵 for infielders:
Another Rays player talking about getting the barrel to turn quickly behind the baseball. The Rays offense currently leads the league in all major offensive categories
I think I’ve seen the pro velocity bat used to get the barrel to snap quickly somewhere else 🤔
DeRo with some more heat 🔥
Every great hitter may not share the same exact approach or style as each other, however many of them share some similar moves in their swing.
2 great hitters here coiling around the rear leg and launching quickly behind the baseball.
Many people misunderstand the concept of the arc.
My first day with
@Teacherman1986
I could not hit the machine. I was aiming at the ball resulting in a push. It was too slow. Rich calls it ball anxiety.
The second day I stopped worrying about the ball. Clip 1 led to clip 2.
Kerry making an appearance on MLB Network today 🔥
Great clips talking about his routine and what he is trying to establish in his swing:
Ready at release ✅
One legged ✅
Launch quickness ✅
Direction out from ✅
1. The perfect swing will still not play in the game if it takes hittable fastballs for strikes early in the count and chases breaking balls in the dirt behind in the count. If you’re worried about what your swing looks like while you’re in the box it’s over.
2. You have 8 at bats in between yours to figure out what the guy likes to throw. What does he go to early in the count? What does he go to when he’s ahead? When he’s behind? With runners on? All of these give you insight on what you’re about to see. Use it to your advantage.
Shift then swing vs. swing the foot down.
Swinging the foot down from the backside allows him to stay behind the baseball and create launch quickness.
Major differences between the 2022 and 2023 swings.
2022: .221 AVG .646 OPS
2023: .347 AVG 1.062 OPS
Bobby Magallanes and Marcell Ozuna working together before the season on coiling and staying behind the ball
Ozuna is doing a good job of this so far this season as he is producing big power at the plate with 9 Home runs and a 1.117 OPS 🔥
3. Play chess not checkers. If you could hit every pitch in every location at any given time you would be in the big leagues right now. Stop hunting three pitches at the same time. With less than 2 strikes pick what you want to swing at. You may only get 3 AB’s. Why waste one?
4. Take what the game gives you. It’s called offense, but really you can only do so much with what you’re given. Every situation doesn’t call for the 3 run homer. Stay within yourself. Often times in baseball less is more. The more you try to force it, the farther away it becomes
I have talked about overthinking in the past, however I believe these are good things to think about. Leave the mechanics to the cage. You owe it to your teammates to place all the focus on winning the game. That’s all for now. Reach out with any questions.
5. My most memorable home runs occurred not because of the pitch I swung at, but the ones I chose not to swing at. There’s something to be said about being ahead in the count. Win the battle one pitch at a time.

Seager getting the barrel turned without pushing his hands… say what 🤯
On go from the time he steps in the box… but we still have coaches making players take in hitters counts 🤦♂️
Ben Fitzgerald OF/CINF seeking professional opportunities.
Last year in Pioneer league hit .306 with 13 HR and 23 doubles

. Pretty cool to see the success Kerry is having through the swing changes he made with Rich.

2022: .248 AVG .733 OPS
2023: .288 AVG .862 OPS
Applying force towards the ball leads to higher chase rate and weaker contact. Tough to hit good pitching this way.
Applying force behind the ball creates a larger timing window and quicker launch. Let the bat run into the ball
I think something that can get overlooked when watching this is how easy their arm actions are when throwing it off the wall. They are not forcing themselves to throw over the top. It’s loose and easy on the eyes. Many amateur infielders are missing this type of arm action.
Different strokes for different folks. I have been able to learn both of these training styles first hand. Figure out what works best for you. Pick up a bat. Experiment. Continue to learn.
Two swings that come from different philosophies that I have learned along my journey as a player and a coach. In this 🧵 I will break down the thoughts and feels I had while training and using these different philosophies.
The best thing to do in my opinion is watch game footage of great hitters. I have seen this guy play for 3 years now and he has raked every season. I believe he separates himself from the rest by:
1) Ready at Release
2) Launching from the rear leg
3) Launch quickness
Mookie 4-5 on the day with a HR + 6 RBI
The HR will get all the love and replays, but this is important for players to look at ‼️
Cashes in with 2 strikes on a ground ball up the middle AND takes second on the throw home
Playing hard, heads up baseball

Interesting stuff today on MLB Network. A big leaguer working on launching behind the baseball and seeing career changing results. But I thought it couldn’t hit the high pitch and only leads to pop ups and strikeouts?
Cool view of Alvarez using a back heel drop to establish rear leggedness into a short quick swing.
This could be a useful swing to look at for guys who want to adapt a simpler 2K swing.
