Yesterday my mom lost her battle with Cancer. My parents met when they were attending a public skate, so it’s no surprise that she would pass her love of skating onto me. My mom has always been my most fierce supporter, our family’s rock and will be dearly missed❤️
“Edge Chaos” is one of my favorite edge warm-ups! It forces players to keep their head up and find open ice. Sculling, Inside Edge, Outside Edge, Eagles, Shuffle Punch…all with pucks and in a small space for approx 40 sec each. Nice job fellas!
I can’t let summer pass by without reminding my players of this one… Turning your head and stick before the stop is key to a quick transition! Stop looking at your snow! ❄️
Season starts and stops, isolation after isolation, missed opportunities… these past two years have been extremely tough on kids! More now than ever they need to know that it’s ok if you’re not ok!

The Jr Crew are working hard to avoid crossing their feet after pivots and starts/stops. I’m not opposed to crossing… in certain situations crossing over is a great way to generate speed and power, but it’s nice to have the footwork to be able to do both. Nice job fellas!
One of my favorite edge warm-ups when players are getting back on the ice…great for edge control and balance! Inside Edges, Outside Edges, Eagles, C-Steps and Three Turns!
All the best to kids heading into the QMJHL draft this weekend! I was on the ice with 12 Pro’s NHL/AHL earlier this week. 6 were not drafted their first year of eligibility in the Q Draft…6!! Remember it’s what happens after the draft that matters most!
I’m a big believer that you need to feel comfortable skating backwards as well as forwards. The Jr group are working hard on their backwards skating and edge work this summer!
The Jr Crew are working hard on their defensive footwork! Crossovers are great in certain situations, but it’s nice to have the footwork to be able to do both!
Nice job fellas! 🙌
There are so many ways to incorporate quick little transitions into your game! Lots of inside and outside c-step transition work this summer. The off-season is the perfect time to improve your footwork!
Jr’s are working on 1 foot slide stops… such a great way to create time and space and so many ways to incorporate them into your game! Nice job fellas!
Deception is more likely to show up in a players game if it’s part of their practice habits! Working on weight shifts with deception this week. Keep up the great work boys!!
I’ve always believed that you need to feel comfortable skating backward as well as forward. Boys are working hard on their backward skating and edge work! 🙌🏻
All the best to kids heading into the QMJHL draft tonight! It’s worth noting that several of Nova Scotia’s best…Batherson, M. Barron and MacLeod were passed over their first year… Remember it’s what happens after the draft that matters most!
Always a good day when I get to skate with this guy!!
Nice little edge warm-up focusing on edge control and balance. Inside, outside, eagles, C-steps and 3 turns. Looking good Jacob!

Despite Jacob’s diagnosis… he didn’t miss an ice session all summer!! He’s one of the most hard working and humble kids I’ve ever coached!! You’ve got this Jacob!! ❤️
Your Eagles announce that forward Jacob Newcombe has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Our thoughts and support are with Jacob and his family as he embarks on his journey to overcome this challenge.

Lateral and linear crossovers are so effective in the game! Taking a little inspiration from Tim Stützle’s play last night... we worked on wheeling the net and skating up ice through the dots using crossovers!
We’ve been working lots on one foot slides this summer! Such a great way to create time and space… and so many ways to incorporate them into your game! Nice job fellas! 🙌
There are so many ways to incorporate quick little c-step transitions into your game! Lots of outside and inside c-step transitions work this week!
Summer is the perfect time to improve your footwork!
A quick little c-step is a great way to add deception into your game! The Jr boys are working on outside and inside c-step transitions with crossovers.
Lots of open hip eagle work this week!Hip mobility is so important for skating!! Groups are working hard at creating power with lead and back foot, while keeping their upper bodies quiet!
A little pre-shutdown eagle action from the 06/07 group last week. Boys are working on creating power from the lead foot and back foot while keeping the head and body quiet. Stay safe everyone... can’t wait to get back on the ice!!
Very young players often turn their backs to the play and tend to skate in straight lines. U11’s are working on footwork and angling to help them read and dictate the play!🏄♂️ Nice job boys!
U18’s are working on 1 foot slide stops! Such a great way to create time and space…and so many ways to incorporate them into your game. Nice job girls!
“Edge Chaos” is my go to edge warm-up! It forces players to keep their head up and find open ice!
Sculling, Inside Edge, Outside Edge, Eagles, Shuffle Punch etc. all with pucks in a small space. Nice job fellas! 👍
A player will cross their feet hundreds of times in a game! When the foot crosses in a wide motion or if the heel leads, the back leg will slip straight back and the player will miss out on generating power from the push. It takes deliberate practice to correct, but so important!
Proud and honoured to announce my commitment to play division 1 hockey at Quinnipiac University. Thank you to all my family and friends for helping me get to this point. Huge thanks to OHA Edmonton and all of the great coaches I’ve had over the years!

Sequence transitions with edge work and crossovers in practice and these skills will translate more easily into practice/games.
Nice
A high crossover to stride ratio is really beneficial in today’s game! Boys are working on circular, lateral and linear crossovers like these without a weight shift.
