Legislatures and executives have long failed to fulfill and protect the education rights of schoolchildren but no institution has done more with as much authority to subvert those rights than the U.S. Supreme Court.

This is all true and unjust. And social mobility is the gateway drug, not the cure.

The Big Beautiful Bill is a lot of things, but what it really does is reorder pipelines so that it’s harder for future poor kids to compete against future rich kids—and, if they do, they’ll have to pay interest for the privilege.

They want you to distrust public schools and misperceive education as only a private, individual good so that they can privatize it and subjugate the people who can't afford to escape it. Mahmoud v. Taylor fast tracks that agenda.

SCOTUS majority allows certain religious beliefs to dictate public school curriculum. Chaos & censorship will ensue. Parental rights on steroids trumping children's rights to education reflects selfish, private goods notion of schooling key to its privatization.

NEW: In Mahmoud v. Taylor, a case about whether religious families have a First Amendment right to opt out of public school lessons involved LGBTQ themes, the court holds that the families are likely to succeed and are entitled to a preliminary injunction.

If tech, privatization, and corruption don't finish off public education, the resulting ignorance and selfish amorality will surely do the trick.

No matter what they call it--a voucher, tax credit, or scholarship--it's legalized corruption plain and simple.

Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” is a billionaire giveaway—packed with tax breaks for the ultra-rich to bankroll private school tuition for families making up to $500K. It bloats the deficit and bleeds public schools dry. Tell Congress: NO vouchers, YES equity.

I mean, really, what about parental rights to choose witchcraft for their children's education? Or live animals for a farm to table program? Surely these kids have a constitutional right to learn, on taxpayers dime, how to load and operate a weapon in a home gun safety course?.

Question is how much authoritarian/illiberalism will the Supreme Court tolerate?. Answer is slightly less than the autocrats want but far more than the Court can contain. This game the Court's majority seems to be playing won't end in their favor. Or ours.

Today I was sent this letter by Superintendent Michele Blatt to schools recommending they not comply with Morrisey’s executive order regarding religious exemptions for vaccines since the bill did NOT pass. Before it could be reported, I was sent the second statement by WVDE.

Yes, states invested in charter schools & it'll be difficult to disinvest. But if SCOTUS forces this choice, accepting religious public schools strips public education of meaning, w/out democratic orientation, it's just gov't subsidy that private entities can loot w/ "efficiency".

What's point of charter schools if they don't provide a *public education* alternative to traditional schools? Religious indoctrination is not public education. If SCOTUS forces this choice, let charter schools reconstitute as private schools, won't deserve public school label.

Supreme Court blessed or not, our children's minds do not belong to a minority of voters however intent they may be on autocratic indoctrination. States can stop this by refusing to direct public funds to private schools or quasi-private in the case of charter schools.

“This is taxpayer-funded, state-sponsored religious indoctrination. You’ve just got to call it what it is.”. SCOTUS is about to let religion ruin public education.

It's not just the evaporating line between church and state as Christian nationalism looms. It's the privatization eviscerating the line between public & private education without which the democratic state is doomed.
