We’re rolling out a few updates to Codex today: 1. Codex is rolling out to ChatGPT Plus users today. It includes generous usage limits for a limited time, but during periods of high demand, we might set rate limits for Plus users so that Codex remains widely available.

my hot take is that codex increases the value of being technical. if you can describe precisely what you want to build, you can get a massive amount done in parallel. that’s fundamentally a technical skill

We’re also releasing codex-mini-latest, a smaller model optimized for use in the codex cli. codex mini is a *big* step up in experience from o4-mini in the cli. If you haven’t tried the cli recently, it’s worth checking out again with this new model!

I was surprised how useful deep research was for code even *without* this. Doing research over *your own* code is pretty magical!
You can now connect GitHub repos to deep research in ChatGPT. 🐙 Ask a question and the deep research agent will read and search the repo’s source code and PRs, returning a detailed report with citations. Hit deep research → GitHub to get started.

Excited to expand access to deep research! The lightweight version doesn’t go *quite* as deep as the full version but honestly it’s pretty close
We've noticed many of you love using deep research, so we’re expanding usage for Plus, Team, and Pro users by introducing a lightweight version of deep research in order to increase current rate limits. We’re also rolling out the lightweight version to Free users.
