Video.js is getting completely rebuilt. Created by our co-founder @heff, we're stepping up as the new corporate steward, and are doing a complete rewrite: composable and framework-native. Shoutout to the Video.js team: @gkatsev, Garrett Singer, @luwes, @mihar_22, @sam_potts,

Fuck your feelings. But my feelings are precious. Violence is never ok. But people I don't like should die. Free speech is when I can say what I want without consequences. But your words have consequences. You should respect the dead. But I can mock them. Cancel culture is

AI agents that can read your Mux videos and instantly summarize them? Yep. @MattMcClure gave the live demo at MCP Night, hosted by @grinich and @WorkOS (who also power our secure auth flow behind the scenes)

MCPs are so hot right now...for good reason! Announcing the @MuxHQ MCP. Now you can work with the robots to analyze videos or have them dig through analytics data for you. You can even install it using Claude's shiny new extension format 😉 https://t.co/fytH9GD07n

TL;DR: Pre-AI: Only record when absolutely necessary. Post-AI: Record everything. Every camera and every screen recorder is now a potential generator of valuable data.

Why this matters: Data is incredibly valuable in a world of AI. AI relies on data to work, and good data is a strategic, non-commoditizable advantage. The ROI of data will only increase as models get better. Video is data for AI.

Getting philosophical: video captures spatial, temporal, and behavioral data that text cannot. Using words or numbers to summarize visual content is highly lossy. The real world is sensory, not textual! With video, AI can analyze the real world, not linguistic abstractions.

We're seeing this shift at Mux in our own data. Our fastest growing use-cases are storage-bound, storing tons of video that rarely (or never) gets watched. Think meeting recorders, generative video previews, one-time-use personalized video.

AI can analyze video, search video, and summarize huge catalogs of video cheaply and efficiently. Humans analyzing video in real-time: maybe $50/hour? AI analysis of video: 10-100x cheaper, and parallelizable.

Under-appreciated way AI is changing video: AI turns video from a cost center to a data asset. Before AI, it was hard to extract value from large sets of video. Humans had to analyze video, and humans are expensive. AI unlocks new ways of extracting meaning from video.

"This value is also shared between all users" 😂 This is incredible.
CEO of writing terrible software, reporting for duty 🫡 This is my submission to the @codetv_dev + @MuxHQ worst video player challenge 💥

Also, immigration isn't what's causing society to unravel right now.

The ironic cruelty is that "mass migration" is a key part of our 40 year economic boom. Subtract tens of millions from the workforce—"skilled" and "unskilled"—and you have a much more stagnant economy. Don't massively benefit from immigration and demonize it at the same time.

When I die, I want my last words to be "I left a million dollars in the..." That way, my family will always have something to talk about at Thanksgiving. (Claude)

Finally, Claude can't tell a joke without sounding like Rodney Dangerfield ("I think self-checkout machines judge me more than human cashiers ever did. At least humans pretend not to notice when I buy ice cream for dinner.") But I thought this one was pretty good:

Gemini gets the "shape" of the joke well, but the actual meaning doesn't always work. (Especially in the last two.) ChatGPT errs on the side of silly/zany (dolphin sunglasses?) but makes fewer logical errors.
